I'd like to see this priced around the $100-150 mark, with major upgrades (new features/rewrites rather than bug fixes) priced at ~$30.
To ensure you don't spend time supporting old versions you could make it clear that each version will be retired from support after a certain period of time has elapsed following the release of a subsequent version. If everyone understands this from the off, then I don't see a problem.
