Both have similar themes. Victor Sjostrom's acting is almost as good as Shimura's (though Sjostrom had been retired from acting for quite some time and had become a reclusive drunk) but Kurosawa must get the nod. Bibi Andersson is perfect in Wild Strawberries though. She understood her role so well and plays it beautifully.
