Default Re: So, in 1987....

Methodology:
Data was largely collected between September and November 2006 and is regularly updated to take account of changing circumstances. In particular, the assessments will be revised in the case of any new developments. The Mercer database contains more than 350 cities, however only 215 cities have been considered for the quality of living 2007 ranking in order to compare from one year to the next.

Mercer’s study is based on detailed assessments and evaluations of 39 key quality of living determinants, grouped in the following categories:
• Political and social environment (political stability, crime, law enforcement, etc)
• Economic environment (currency exchange regulations, banking services, etc)
• Socio-cultural environment (censorship, limitations on personal freedom, etc)
• Health and sanitation (medical supplies and services, infectious diseases, sewage, waste disposal, air pollution, etc)
• Schools and education (standard and availability of international schools, etc)
• Public services and transportation (electricity, water, public transport, traffic congestion, etc)
• Recreation (restaurants, theatres, cinemas, sports and leisure, etc)
• Consumer goods (availability of food/daily consumption items, cars, etc)
• Housing (housing, household appliances, furniture, maintenance services, etc)
• Natural environment (climate, record of natural disasters)

I wouldn't by choice live in any of the first five cities on the US list.

Portland, and Seattle I would.

I can't imagine any circumstance that would make me live in Honolulu. If for instance, I decided to become a fulltime internet pro, I could see living on some of the other islands, but Honolulu- bad traffic and brutal prices especially for housing.

Vancouver Canada, is one of the nicest places that I have been, and I would certainly consider moving there, but I know that my wife would never go for a place that far temperate, (she likes hot weather).

I haven't been to Sydney Australia, but we really enjoyed our time in Melbourne this winter, and that seemed like a very liveable place.

Default running good.

One of my bankroll management tools is the 'rule of 72'. Basically, it says that you divide 72, by the return on your money, and you get the number of periods that it will take your capitol to double. So, if you make 6%, it will take 12 periods to double your bankroll. My goal, is to average 1% a day. If I do that, without withdrawals, my bankroll doubles in a little over two months. I also know that if 10% swings are a frequent occurrence, you are probably effectively broke, because if those size swings occur frequently, sometime they will stack up against you, and you will be broke.

Each day, I keep track of my 1% goal, add or subtract my result for the day, and then use that as my starting point for the next day. If you run bad, you might face a deficit of a couple of hundred big bets, ( because you are adding to your goal each day, and if you lose say 150 big bets, you will suddenly be behind your goal by several hundred big bets. You can also fall a long ways behind, by just running flat for a long time.

Anyway, last November, I had a long flat/downward swing, and I found myself several thousand dollars behind on my 1% goal. But, I've been running good lately, and I finished yesterday about $100 from reaching that 1% goal. So today, I added 1% and I needed $222 to reach my goal. I played last night, and lost a couple of hundred in online games. I think I played well, but it was just a matter of not getting there on any hands.

Today is Tuesday, which means that Canterbury Park is running there 'Aces never lose' promotion. If you get pocket Aces cracked, you get $75, which if you are playing 8-16, usually still amounts to a small loss, but at least you get to make an insurance claim on your aces. Usually the games are great, because people play a lot of hands strangely. They might slowplay aces, so you don't lose as much as you should, or even better, you might make a hand that you shouldn't have been there on. Then, at the end, there might be a $250 pot, but they turn over Aces, and say 'beat me', like the $75 would be better than winning the pot.

After my loss last night, I needed $427 to make my goal for the day, and I went over to the Park at about 11:15 and put my name on the 6-12, 8-16, and 15-30 lists. I scouted the games, and both 8-16 games looked like great games. I decided that if I got in either one of them, I would take my name off of all the other lists.

While I'm waiting, I run into a friend of mine that I haven't seen for a while, and we talk about we've been running in internet poker lately, and I tell him about my trip to Australia last winter.

I do get called for an 8-16 game, and take my name off the other lists. Its a couple of hands to the blinds, so I go to the cage to get chips myself. At the cage, the cashier says. 'I need your hat'. I am wearing my 'I'm running good' hat. I tell her that she can buy one, and she says, does your hat work, and I say, 'sure, I always run good'. She tells me that she wants that hat, and I tell her that it isn't for sale.

So I get my seat in the game, and the first lap, I have KQs in UTG+1. UTG limps, I raise, there are about 3 coldcallers, and the flop comes Q98 twotone. I bet the flop, turn and river, as a green 3, and purple2 come, and MHIG. One of the Coldcallers is the guy on my direct left.

A couple of laps later, UTG, and a couple of other players limp, and I have red AA in the BB. The pot is small, so I decide to play my hand normally, and raise, bet the flop, turn and river, and get called in two places. UTG, says, AA is good. I show and collect.

Next hand, five limpers, I complete with pocket 4s in the SB, and the BB raises. We all call. As the dealer is spreading the flop, the doorcard is a beautiful 4, I checkraise the field, bet every street, and get called in two places. UTG says, I don't want to be involved in any more pots with you, you seem to beat me every time.

Next hand, several limpers, and I have KJsuited on the button. ( I know I don't need to tie anyone to these pots, most are being showndown multiway) so I limp, and tell the guy on my left 'be careful'. He completes, and the BB checks.

Flop A85 with the Ace of diamonds and another diamond. I am drawing to the nut flush.

The SB bets, MP raises, I call, SB calls.

Turn offsuit Queen. (more outs for me, SB bets, and we all call.

River offsuit Ten. SB bets, MP raises, I could call, and go for an overcall here, but I think they both have real hands, and they might call my reraise anyway. I threebet, SB folds, and MP calls.

I lose a pot with QQ vs a set of fours, ( and think well, what goes around......)

I pick up AK, UTG+1, raise, get coldcalled twice, and
Ace flops, and by now, they are all convinced that I know how to value bet, and I win uncontested. I look down, and I am up a little over $500.

I think, It is almost 1:00, I could go home, post this, take a nap, and it would be a good day.

So, I rack up, go take my chips back to the cage. The cashier says ' The hat really does work.'

Limit holdem is making me angry.

I understand there is a variation of this game that is played without a limit. I am going to learn this game.

Look out for shane88888 in BBV. I'll be the one pictured balla-style with my rolls of unlucky 50's and cubic zirconium bling. In other words, I'm going to fit in just fine.

Me too. But I'll never turn my back on limit, the real man's game.

well, you set a goal and reached it. congratulations. anytime you accomplish a longterm objective it is a reason for celebration. two years, 200K for a small/medium stakes limit hold em player is pretty strong, IMO.

Hey, thanks James. Well, actually it took well more than 2 years. More like 2.5. However, I did make just over 100 the last 12 months. So, that's better. I've really improved since I joined 2plus2 and more now that I'm actually starting to read all these poker books I've collected (I've got like 45 of them now, most free from affiliates). Now I've really got to work harder to become a better player. All the time I spend at the table, not being better is costing me.

I'm also trying NL... it can be fun. Yesterday mr. smart-arse gave me a freeplay in the BB with 53o (he had JJ) and the flop came 555: jackpot.

Question to posters here:

If 2plus2 was a subscription only exclusive site, how many dollars a month would you be willing to pay to access it? That is, how much is 2plus2 worth to you?

I think this place could obviously potentially be worth many hundreds of dollars and much more per month month to some, at least for a certain amount of time.
