I think the bots idea is a losing proposition for a couple of reasons. The main though is that poker is a zero sum game (negative sum actually but whatever).

The more you multiply your bots to increase your profits, the more $ they are sucking out of the games. So there is a diminishing returns.

Also it seems unlikely that even with your resources you will be able to develop strong ring game bots at a reasonable cost.

I could go on but basically I just don't see that plan working.

The player-backing hedge fund is sort of interesting but there are some basic problems that I think will not make the idea feasible on a large enough scale to be worth trying.

For one thing the most +EV players also tend to be the most able to pay for themselves.

Also the EV of good tourney players is not really that high from a hedge fund's perspective, especially when you factor in the double taxation that will be involved.

Backing can be very profitable as a personal venture but I totally don't see it working at an institutional level.
