The advice in this thread blows. Can't Hardly Wait is far and away the best 80s movie teen film type thing to come out since the 80s. Some of the other films listed here are good (Rushmore is my favorite movie) but only Can't Hardly Wait fits the mold perfectly.

I love that movie and was really the last movie that fit the genre.

As another child of the 80's, I thought American Beauty captured teen angst and mid-life crises pretty well.
SLC Punk (1999) was a great semi-indie film that a lot of people missed. But since it was set in the 80's I don't know if it qualifies as a "modern" teen angst film. Honestly, though, I think that John Hughes already perfected the genre with his aforementioned films, with The Breakfast Club being his masterpiece. At a party last night I was talking to a 22 & 23 year-old, both of whom own & love that movie.

It was definitely surprisingly good. Great song too.
I'm surprised I didn't know Hughes had remained so active. I guess I just blanked him out because I don't like the kind of movies he did after that.
