Question - in professional situations, like conferences, client meetings, intra-company whatever, does ever forgetting a name come up? That was the main motivation for me to try and remember. Also I think it's a bit rude to forget people's names (I am a bit of a nit).
I find I don't have to do the "repeat a name" trick, just requires a touch more focus upon introduction. -Al |

Does it happen, yeah. But mostly in larger meetings where you didn't pay attention to who's on the invite list. At Google, if it's a meeting where you could have a reason for your laptop, you open up calendar, see everyone who's invited to the meeting, then cross-reference on our internal HR db that has photos and info on everyone. Then you mispronounce the name. At other jobs or if no laptop action is possible, you just look at the person when you want their attention and carefully avoid any construction that requires a name. |
