tech,
I just have a lot of respect for guys like you who have what it takes to perform and close at the highest levels. I don't know you, but Jason is a friend and really good guy. I know you guys know each other from school and I just hope that you are still grounded enough to help him out with some tips and stuff to help get his tourney game to near the same level as yours. |

Money, Money, Money. I have a real flash for David and his critic and inquisitor, Strassner. Money is not the measure of a man. Money is really not worth worshipping. Neither is the materialistic crap that money will buy.
There is so much, "You should be like me." in David's and Strassner's positions. It is difficult enough to monitor yourself in this humorous old world, you should not want others to be like you. It is not important to defend who you are unless you are uncomfortable with it. Tolerance and an intellectual view of the world tell us that we allow others to have their views. The original post was innocent enough. Mr. Sklansky was correcting the impression that all the celebrity poker players have a lot of money. It is a bit of a cautionary tale about who to select as your heroes. Don't have any heroes. Examine your own life and set your own standards, goals, dreams. Beware of who you look up to. It diminishes you. Mr. Strasser is passing through the age of maturation. Pointing the finger in such a judgemental way is just part of immaturity. It's like-me bias. Look at me. I am wildly successful. Everyone should want to be like me. David is stuck, like a broken record, saying that limit poker is as much a game of skill as no-limit poker. He's looking under rocks for evidence of his predisposed point of view. I disagree. It is certainly all right for me if these guys believe anything that they want to believe about risk, gambling, pussy, or anything else. If you will let me be me, I will let you be you. Actually, I'm going to be me either way. The smartest thing to be in our culture is a lazy genius. Mr. Sklansky does not qualify because he works to hard. |

Strasser is this Duke undergrad who thinks he knows everything. He used to always flame my posts on the MTT forum, so at least I am in good company.
With Strasser and Sklansky you have two Gods in conflict, so it gets kind of nasty with thunderbolts being hurled right and left. |

[/ QUOTE ] Betgo -- To the best of my knowledge, every competent MTTer has flamed your posts. Your tone is really misplaced in reference to a guy like Strasser, who is far from a know-it-all and even farther from being the sort of guy who deserves a curt negative judgment like this. --Nate |

What is so bad about being a lazy genius as long as you're working hard enough to get by? So few geniuses ever make a memorable mark on society, I think it's preferable to do what you enjoy, live your life and be true to thineself. Realistically in 100 years nobody is going to remember Strassa. Not trying to be harsh man, the same is true of almost all of us. Assuming poker is still played then some people will remember Sklansky from his books at least. |

Just out of curiosity, I wonder if Strass admires the guy who put his entire net worth on one spin of the roulette wheel on one color. Also, would this guy be more admirable had he put it on a third? Would he then be even more admirable had he put it on a single number?
Edit: oops, looks like he clarified his position in the other thread. |
