First - Probably a straight, white, male who was either pissed off with his girlfriend or dissatisfied with school/professors/classmates, or both. This is typical for mass shootings in the U.S.

Second - An Islamic extremist. Less typical, but a possibility.

What is there to do? Maybe our national interpretation of the Second Amendment is a bit too loose? Wadda ya do?

Heard a news report that he was Asian but don't know how reliable that info is.

Man all the people saying "banning guns wouldn't prevent mass killings" and not one of them citing anything to back that claim up...that never happens.

I dont understand why more Americans dont see how illogical the arguement is that to control violence you neeed to carry guns?!?

[/ QUOTE ]

Americans will tell you the Constitution blah blah but I think it really comes down to this bizarre Wild West mentality we seem to have. When you question an American's right to bear an arm, you are literally attacking his manhood. It sounds silly but it's true, just look through this thread for examples. I was born here and I've lived here for 29 years and I still don't get it. Sure I had a BB gun when I was little but at some point you grow up, well most of us. I guess for me, I've learned to accept that gun maniacs and random shootings will always be a part of life as long as I live here. You simply aren't going to get the gun crazies to give them up, ever, most of them are so delusional about their shooting prowess that you'd never be able to convince them otherwise. You just have to hope you and your loved ones can stay out of their way.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks for painting all gun owners as drooling, macho, retards.

What exactly can we do to prevent something like this? Nothing! The fact of the matter is when there is a random unforseen act of violence like this, there's nothing you can do about it! If a crazy person wants to get some guns and go on a killing spree, how can he be stopped? He gets to choose the time and place. I'm sure after this there will be much better security at Va Tech. But what about the local mall? What about the public library? A hospital? Unless you want to live in a police state with armed guards on every corner, this sort of thing will always be with us.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can guarantee you that if somebody walks into a shopping mall in florida and starts going on a killing spree he won't get very far before an armed citizen takes him out along with several other bystanders near him.

Let's say hypothetically that school shootings could be 100% eliminated by banning all guns (I don't for a second think this, but I'm just granting it for the sake of argument).

I would STILL be against it.

Just because some people abuse their rights does not mean everyone should have to sacrifice that right.

So you're telling me I'M not allowed to own a gun because some mentally ill teenager might go shoot up his school?

This might sound crass, but I'd rather live in a society with gun ownership rights and a school shooting incident every year than in a society without gun ownership and no school shootings.

As a gun owner and an advocate of carrying weapons for protection, if you could demonstratively prove that banning all weapons would stop violent crime, I would be 100% in favor.

Giving students the ability to carry firearms on and around school campus is just about the dumbest idea ever proposed.

So, you really want to live in the "wild west" where everyone is packing a gun? Jeez, people aren't careful with their cars, much less everyone with a freakin handgun!

"Let's make tons of ineffectual laws that restrain the rights of law abiding citizens to own guns while doing nothing to affect criminals owning guns." is dumber, and if not, it's a close second.

If it could be demonstratively proven that you could eliminate all automotive deaths by lowering the speed limit to 15 mph would you support such?
