These mass-murderers are, by and large, cowards. They get picked on for year after year, and never stand up for themselves because they are cowards. Then something snaps, and they strike out. How do they do it? They start hurting innocent people who they know will not be able to fight back, like a gun in a school room. In other words they choose the path of least resistance, with the goal of killing themselves when the police arrive, whether self-inflicted or suicide-by-cop.

If these cowards know some one will shoot back, they will not go on shooting sprees, because by and large, they do not have the courage for a fight. And if by some chance one particular shooter does, then some one could shoot him sometime after victim #1 but before victim #20. Plus, we all know how fast and effectively the police can respond to a situation like this.

I am with the NRA on this one.

What exactly can we do to prevent something like this? Nothing! The fact of the matter is when there is a random unforseen act of violence like this, there's nothing you can do about it! If a crazy person wants to get some guns and go on a killing spree, how can he be stopped? He gets to choose the time and place. I'm sure after this there will be much better security at Va Tech. But what about the local mall? What about the public library? A hospital? Unless you want to live in a police state with armed guards on every corner, this sort of thing will always be with us.

[/ QUOTE ]

I can guarantee you that if somebody walks into a shopping mall in florida and starts going on a killing spree he won't get very far before an armed citizen takes him out.

In Britain we had the Dunblane massacre.

We banned all handguns, and highly restricted access to all other guns.

We have had no school shootings since.

Gun control works. Sure the bad guys can get guns if they *really* want to. Im sure i can get a handgun here in Manchester in only 4 degrees of seperation at most.

BUT it does limit these types of attacks, it stops husbands getting pissed off and killing their wives, its limits gun crime massively.

Again - banning guns is 100% a good and logical solution

This is NOT the wild west. And things dont happen like in the films you seem to enjoy.

Ban all guns, or accept school shootings as a normal part of life. That is litterally your choice.

Yes, because college kids are the most responsible people in America.

There is an argument for having people carry guns. They are called cops. They carry guns because they have training to do so in a safe manner. Even then they screw up and kill innocent people.

Jesus, think through your arguments slightly.

Five frat kids sit around a keg. They are drunk. One insults the other. The other shoots the first. Everyone else kills the origional killer, then kill each other.

Actually, to be fair, that is a good conclusion imo.

"We tell residents that it's important to remember that they're responsible for their own safety and they're also responsible for the safety of everybody else that lives there," said Maj. Jamie Herring, assistant campus police chief.

This quote from a CNN article kinda pisses me off.

"You are responsible for your own safety," yet you can't arm yourself. This applies only to students having shotguns/rifles since you have to be 21 to own a handgun.

The police chief is right. The state should have not let some guy with a gun shop sell the weapon to the shooter.

No gun, no shooting.

QFT,

In the UK restricting access to all types of guns was the best thing that could of happened to us. I dont understand why more Americans dont see how illogical the arguement is that to control violence you neeed to carry guns?!?

Get everyone bulletproof vests and hope the shooter doesn't aim for the head.

There is literally nothing you can do if you have someone who wants to kill other people and is willing to kill himself to accomplish that---they have lots of experience with that in the Middle East and they still don't have a real workable solution there.

In that case it is a non issue IMO, but I'm sure the media will hype it and politicians looking for attention will angle for some publicity and power.

So what I would do is: live my life.
