I think the general consensus is to play for ITM with the best shot at also getting first, not to play to win at all costs, and not to foldbot to the money.

Special cases could say otherwise but I wouldn't take every slight +EV spot to try and get first and also wouldn't regularly fold my way to the money if it ensured a spot at 3rd.
