i would go out and find a local free poker league here in texas we have Barpoker, id play some nano limit poker anything that will get you playing cards without a lot to loose. If you want books to start with id pick up Poker Essay 1-3, these should help with getting started, since u want to go with holdem id pick up Ed Millers book and SSHE, and work from their, since you will likely not begin as a winning player rakeback deals and bonus will be a good idea, and well if your starting out in the lower limits they will dwarf your initial winrate. Personally id spend enough time playing before deciding to invest the time it will take to become an educated and winning player. Best of luck, hope your poker education doesn't cost you too much
