Default Re: Soldering

[ QUOTE ]
The DC Jack in my laptop is loose.

Should I (soldering noob) attempt to tackle the problem my self or leave it to a pro?

[/ QUOTE ]

If you self-describe as a n00b, then I wouldn't undertake this project yet.

[ QUOTE ]
Is there a big chance that I could destroy the laptop with D.I.Y soldering?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes. It's a fairly simple job, really, but the downside is big.

[ QUOTE ]
Is £80 (approx. $160) a reasonable price to get the job done by a pro?

[/ QUOTE ]

Depends. Some laptops can take quite a while to open up and put back together, and there is a high probability of messing something up in the process, so the tech has to charge what seems like a high amount in order to cover both his time and the expense of routine screwups.
