[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Tales of a Scorched Earth is heavier than anything by Metallica [/ QUOTE ] wtf? so I'll admit that I haven't heard this album, but have you actually heard any of the pre-MTV metallica? no one is talking about "load", "st anger" or the black album when they are talking about metallica. [/ QUOTE ] The first CD's I ever bought were Kill 'Em All and Ride The Lightning [/ QUOTE ] How can you honestly say that Tales of a Scorched Earth is heavier than anything on Kill 'Em All? |

Remember- I'm not just talking about your own personal favorites, I'm talking about the how prolific they were and their international popularity. [/ QUOTE ] Based on the above criteria (prolific and international popularity) I make the following list in no particular order: The Eagles Cheap Trick Aerosmith ZZ Top KISS Flame away, but these bands have the most international recognition and are all extremely prolific. |

Quote: Pretty funny when you see people bagging Nickelback and Creed whilst loving Metallica in the same thread. If MTV didn't put those names in the bottom of the screen how would you know what crap you were listening to anyway. Kiss [censored] all over Metallica and they weren't even serious. This is the dumbest thing I have ever read. If Metallica sounds like Nickelback and Creed then Kiss sounds like Run DMC. [/ QUOTE ] Nothing to do with the way they sound - the point is that they are all great examples of the "beancounter" rock genre. Metallica are right up there with The Monkees & history will not treat them kindly for it. |

So your theory is that an albums success is directly related to how long it took to come out? So if my little brother records an album on a laptop in like 3 days, does that mean it's the greatest album ever? That is a dumb way to look at things. They already have a quantity of songs in their collection, so at this point I think it's OK to hold out for quality.
Anyway, forget Chinese Democracy. I say they are top 5 without it; what I said was that with it, they will make many more lists. Here are some great pieces of music by GNR: Welcome to the Jungle It's So Easy Nighttrain Out to Get Me Mr. Brownstone Paradise City Sweet Child O' Mine Rocket Queen Patience Used to Love Her You're Crazy Live and Let Die (remake) Don't Cry November Rain Civil War Yesterdays Knockin' on Heavens Door (remake) Estranged You Could be Mine Sympathy for the Devil (remake) Hair of the Dog (remake) That is a really good body of work. And 7 of the 9 songs from their new album I've already heard and are all top-notch. The remaining 4 supposed songs I have not yet heard. |

Metallica was at one point the most popular metal band on the planet. Metallica influenced countless other bands and created some of the most memorable metal songs in history. |

This is clearly one of those threads everyone posts in but doesn't read what anyone else put (at least that's what I did), but whatever.
1. Beach Boys 2. Talking Heads 3. Pixies 4. CCR 5. Johnny Cash (I'm counting this as a "band" cuz I want to). |

I'd like to rephrase-- you're "blindly ignorant" about Metallica. |
