Darklands, I love this game & still do. It was one of the 1st games I had on my 386DX. I'd rate this 2nd to Oblivion as me fave rpg.

Wow, I thought I was the only one who ever played this OLD, OLD game. It was freaking awesome, but so hard. Sweet game. If you're looking at other old-school RPGs, Betrayal at Krondor for the PC rocks, as long as you ignore the cheesey costumes.

I really really like that game but the combat is insanely difficult, basicly you have to spend hundreds of hours on random fights just to boost up your characters. I gave up at some point, I just couldn't beat the fights near the end anymore and was too tired of the grinding.

Angband > Nethack

ToME > Angband

Or if you don't like the direction ToME took, NPPAngband > Angband, too.

Nethack's a bit silly and for most players has very high variance. Angband rewards patience and grinding it out.

Might and Magic 6 (PC). That game rocked.

BGII, as mentioned, was very good gameplay as well.
NeverWinterNights didn't quite live up to BGII, IMO, but the online was pretty cool. I could see Build-your-own-world stuff, if managed well, running strong and gaining popularity in the future.

On that note, anyone tried out NWN II? Saw it on the shelves the other day...
