Easy to say in hindsight but I believe the villian is triple barreling with an underpair to the flop (and evidently to your hand). He senses rightly you have an overpair but will suspect he has hit the ace or indeed had the 8 all along. This is basic abc analysis but not every hand is off the shizzle.

I think your call down can only be expecting this hand - if you are suspecting a suited conncectors, trash, you have to include an 8 in his range and therefore I believe when considering his total range do not have 'odds for a call'.

This is one of those hands where you would have to take the same line even if your hand were face up and the villain knew your hole cards.

what mperich said is good. fwiw, you should really treat JJ like the nuts against this opponent and fastplay it - lucky is super paranoid and will look for every opportunity to take the pot from you if he thinks you're bluffing. which is what you want JJ to look like here.
