i read somewhere that Clooney bought the rights for the movie and Michael Mann was going to direct it. But it can't find any current info about it. While watching the movie i couldn't help but wish somebody would try to make a historically accurate portrait of it, even though i was enjoying myself.

just got in from this. pretty bad. i went in with zero expectations hoping for thin plot and sweet battles and fighting.

plot was LOL bad. the whole thing with the politics was completely terrible. so bad.

the movie could only been more homoerotic if they all started blowing each other.

music awful. dialogue awful. speeches so bad. didn't use enough monsters. none of the battles or fights were particularly cool. repetitive. the whole thing with the hunchback was retarded.

no good use of any of the creatures really. should have been a ton more.

3.5/10 and i went in with low expectations. edited down into 25 minutes it could probably be a 7.5/10.

Are you kidding me... YOU are LOL... this is one of the GREATEST stories from one of the GREATEST empires to every inhabit our planet...

If you didn't like the film-making, the acting, the editing... whatever...

But to say this was a BAD story... you need to read more and watch less Zoolander type flicks.

the story is interesting and could have been well done. but it was done terribly. the voiceover narration was bad. the plotting bad. the entire political subplot was laughable. as was the thing with the hunchback. the story was mangled and retarded.

maybe you are an idiot? i need to read more? watch more zoolander flicks? what the [censored] are you talking about. you are a moron kid. maybe just rent some gay porno and be done with it?

have you ever read the real story of theromapalye (?SP)?????

The story was pretty accurate with just the Characters exagerated for affect and entertainment...

I thought the voice-over setup the plot and the experience of the Spartan soldiers very well.

The physcial characteristics (like the hunch-back) were suppose to be a story telling technique.

I didn't go to film school... but I thought this movie was excellent.

The pacing was good, the editing was a little goofy with all the slow-mo's... but over-all I thought it was ground breaking.

Factor in that the actors were all performing against a blank green canvas... and you have some pretty powerful performances. Think of how piss poor the new Star Wars movies were in comparision.

If you weren't at least entertained by this movie... I have to believe that you are one bitter-betty.

I am not understanding a lot of the hate on here either specifically b/c my fellow 2p2'ers are usually the most well read and the least judging when it comes to these kind of stories etc.

I can't remember if it was a review, in this thread or on another thread on this site that said the whole idea that the Spartans seemed to have these superpowers and simply dominate every other warrior it faced is illogical blah blah blah. Everything I have read talked about how the Battle of Thermoplyae was forever used as an example for tactic and superior weaponry.

Those who complain about the dialogue, if you look any of this stuff up you will notice that much of the lines were actually said. If you go to wikipedia you will see that Leonidas' words have been repeated over and over by generals etc. and are a huge part of the Greek Army today.

Some are mad about the ending, that's weird its like being pissed that the Titanic sunk. The only thing is that obviously he wasn't the last one to die but its a movie.

Some are talking about the homoeroticism of the characters b/c of the waxed bodies and the abs. Hmmm, its not gay to not want to stare at overweight and hairy men for two hours. It is also not gay being ok with warriors looking like they can kick anyone's ass. This line of thinking is [censored] stupid.

Some of the criticisms are perfectly fine such as the slow mo's during each fight scene, this can detract and I can see why people wouldn't like this. The repetitiveness of the killings, it did seem like it was either a slice to the torso, a leg sliced off or a decapitation...over and over. To me these are logical problems b/c it has to do with the movie and not the story, a story that can't be changed b/c it is true.

You can't change the meat of the story, but at least you could have moderately deep characters/dialogue as well as not seeing the same battle half a dozen times.

the haters on here amuse me. If you want to enjoy real cinema, then go watch 'Namesake' or whatever the [censored] is out. Otherwise, if you're a guy and you enjoy action I don't know how you can NOT enjoy this movie. According to polls or whatever, even the women enjoyed it as well. It was light on the emotional resonance, but I still admired how badass the Spartans were. This was a pure battle flick and battles usually take days. So of course it's going to take up the majority of the damn film. This was just a cool film that no one's seen before. If they had made it as any traditional epic, it would've just flopped like Alexander, King Arthur, and all other recent epics.

The may you live forever line at the end was one of the sicker lines in the movie. I thought it was really good, it obv could have been made ridic; however, it was def nowhere near as bad in failing to live up to potential as xmen3. Def overall enjoyable imo and def had some good battles and some sweet lines.

And ps I dont get what is going on w/ zoolander being an insult or something but that movie completely kicked ass.
