It's not linear. There's not some bar filling up towards "not ok" with every additional government action. Some actions are good, some actions are bad. Some are "ok", some are "not ok". You're an anarchist who hates the police, so this question is probably futile, but I'll try anyway. If you didn't think police were corrupt, and that government was legitamte, would you consider actually raising a police force to enforce laws to be a movement towards "not ok" in some linear concept of general "ok-ness"?

But at least we will be safe [/ QUOTE ] I doubt even a full-Orwellian model police state would increase our safety from crime or accident by more than a few percentage points. And that's not even taking into account any threat the police state itself might generate. A small increase in safety is not worth major headaches or giving up freedoms. |

"So many people suffer losses in their lives/their families lives and rather than learning to get past it they want all these laws enacted to make themselves feel better. (mom killed by drunk driver so now person goes on a crucade to have the breatalizer thing for everyone). Rather than accept responsibility with managing their emotions about this tragedy they displace it onto society. Rinse and repeat with countless scenario's where accidents and other tragedies happen across the country."
How do you know they go on their "crucade" to make themselves feel better. I know two couples who have lost a child and they started foundations. Neither has done it to make themselves feel better, they are honestly trying to help other people avoid the problems their sons had. I suppose we all do everything to make ourselves feel better, so in that sense you're right. But you cheapen and demean people who have suffered losses. If by freedom, you mean the freedom to drive drunk, that's not freeedom. Anyway, I'm leaving this thread now, enjoyed the conversation. |

There's a difference between installing video cameras in our brains and a camera on a street corner.

Everyone suffers trageties, many people who do so do not take responsibility for the emotions they experience as a result and act out their pain by pushing an agenda on the public at large via the legislature. In doing so THEY cheapen and demean the freedoms of innocent citizens. Meaning well, having good intentions means nothing. If a maniac murders their children becasue they need to save their soles before the devil gets them they have done a horrible thing... but they meant well? so what If someone starts a foundation to educate people without pushing intrusive legislature and invite people to learn or leave alone per their choice that is another story. |

I like the red light cameras....Too many morons running red lights.
As for speeding it depends. Given the history of speed traps where drives are expected to drive 75 then slow down to 45 in strategic areas tells me politicians are more interested in revenue than public safety... |
