Scamming the system by pretending to be disabled would make you a huge douchebag.

[/ QUOTE ]

my dog means the world to me. if i was 100% certain of her safety and confident in the airline's ability to get her back to me, i would not be considering this plan. but the fact is that i can't count on the airlines to ensure my dog's safety. even members of my family have related their troublesome experiences to me. i've read many horror stories online. and if an airline can lose a VIP, best-of-breed show dog, i can't help but worry that they could possibly somehow lose mine. especially when i'm traveling out of the country. (it doesn't help that i've had to rescue my dog from a thief seconds before he disappeared with her in his truck...)

bottom line is that i would much rather keep my dog with me at all times.

You did read your own article, right?

The dog bolted from its crate, it wasn't "lost" by any frigging airline. The airline that "lost" the dog isn't even mentioned in the article, all it says is the dog bolted from its crate at Kennedy.

I did not see this. I do like how the article makes dog owners out to be morons (psychics?? really??), and implies that highly trained and "well-behaved" dogs run away randomly at the airport.

i just linked to the most recent headline on this very well-publicized case, and you're right, it doesn't focus enough on the part of the story that is most important:

the owners of that dog turned care of their dog over to the airline, and never saw their dog again.

obviously, if i have my dog with me on a leash for my entire trip, i won't have to worry about that happening to me, right?

My friend's tiger means the world to him.

My mom's vial of influenza means the world to her.

You see where I'm going? You're a douchebag for making other people deal with your dog because you are too selfish to fly it the normal way. It's an ANIMAL.

My friend's father did this and it worked. He was flying from Minnesota to California and it was too warm for the dog to be in the cargo hold so he explained to them that she was a epilepsy dog and she walked through security and sat on the floor for the flight. No vest needed. If it matters, he's foreign and a doctor, so used to lying to people and getting his way.
