funny how science can take 120 years of recorded weather data and determine future negative effects on the Earth. You would think since in poker you need hundreds of thousands of hands to have a sample, but in 120 years out of millions is proof positive sample. The sky is falling science scare tactics have been proven to be false in so many instances. Simple truth is most college debate classes can either support of punch holes in almost anything. Watch Penn and Teller's "BS" on showtime. Especially one on recycling. Perfect example of science scare tactics backed by a reactionary government.

Ever think of that? Vince Lepore [/ QUOTE ] Environmentalists generally use fairly weighted science. Yes, humans can maybe have a profound effect on the environment, but if you look at the absolutely abysmal and disastrous record of previous 'intervention' into such affairs you should be really scared when a 'truth' surfaces about how to handle them. Alot of the 'threats' are based on ancient beliefs that nature needs 'balance' (which is bull, nature is never in balance). So yeah, maybe we need to do something but I think it would be a better idea if someone actually took the time to figure out what that something was instead of buying hackneyed 70s theories regarding the environment which is mostly what we see in the media these days. |

The sky is falling science scare tactics have been proven to be false in so many instances. [/ QUOTE ] Since they are so numerous, name 3 in the last 30 years. I can name 2 major discoveries by atmospheric chemists that lead to very positive changes in society off the top of my head. (1) The link between CFCs and the ozone hole. Now CFCs are banned and the ozone hole is making a recovery. (2) The link between NOx (tailpipe) emissions and ozone (smog) formation. Los Angeles has much cleaner air now, although it is still pretty bad due to geographical reasons. In both these cases, interested industries (such as DuPont with CFCs) lead a smear campaign full of lies and distortions to cast doubt on the science... as you are doing now. |
