Would my opinion be allowed under your rules, or would I need to say that a dealer that does X,Y or Z should only be tipped $1 every 100 sessions you play in order to comply with this posting restriction?

I think this is a fine example of the sort of pedantic nittiness that we're trying to avoid. Thanks for showing us what not to do!

Thanks for upping the nastiness level of the thread. Talk about showing people what not to do.

The irony is, your very cogent explanation of when "the whole thread turns to [censored]," which I agree with, provided the impetus for someone to start turning the thread to [censored]. It's not that Wongboy's post is that bad either -- it's just the kind of incremental step toward BS that's about three posts from reminding us why we can't stand tipping threads.

I actually don't foreclose the possibility of anything novel ever being said on the topic of tipping. It just drives me crazy to see the same old arguments for non-tipping/always-tipping rehashed over and over again, because it's so pointless.

If shutting out new people with the same, old, pointless arguments -- or more properly, asking them to dig up old threads rather than hijack new ones -- is elitist, then call me a proud elitist.

I really do love having new blood on this site (I wouldn't spend time in Beginners if I didn't) but I think we can "encourage" people not to keep making the same damn points.

You're pretty good at locking threads that turn into flame wars, regardless of the topic. That's the basic issue. However, tipping threads have a high probability of turning into flame wars.

quick reply: I just read through this, but I have to head out to dinner. *TT*'s statements in this thread are inline with my feeling on this matter also.

Tipping threads always seem to get plenty of traffic. I don't think that eliminating threads that get huge numbers of views and replies is beneficial to the forum. A lot of the people that wish to ban these threads seem to post multiple times in every tipping thread. Casino tipping is a foreign concept to first time players. If the poster hasn't been around the forum enough to have seen a tipping thread or ten, how can you expect him to use the search function? No matter what I search for I always end up with 98% of the results related to hookers and blow.

I wouldn't have been as crass, but yes I think thats an example of where we don't want the tipping threads to go.

And its important to note that we will be making the decision how to proceed jointly, I'm just closer to the keyboard today than RR is or he might have started this thread himself.

CanSpoilU,

[ QUOTE ]

If I want to do a search for "tipping"... I want to do a TITLE ONLY search. And I want the results to list just the relevant threads. NOT the posts.

[snip]

I only need ONE result for this thread posted. If this is the way it works... please correct me. Otherwise... the search engine needs a bit of an overhaul.

[/ QUOTE ]

As TT explained in an earlier post in this thread, you can get this behavior, it just is not the default.

1) In the keword portion use a plus sign before what you want, then type -re: to filter out replies on the subject. So for tipping you want +tipping -re:

2) Change the radio button underneath the search text from "in subject and body" to "in subject" only

Not the default, but now you know how to search better.

Thanks for this info. Bookmarking this thread.

I am one of those guys that loves to use the search feature on sites. I can't stand it when the search is either crippled or not working properly. [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]

I really like tipping threads. The hostility they generate is good reading to get me in the mood to go out and do a drive-by shooting or two.

Definitely allow them.
