in a HU match would Serena win if her winning a single point = a game
so if Federer was up 40-Love and Serena won the next point, the game would go to her |

i don't think serena williams, at her peak of a few years ago, is that big a dog to federer. he still has a big advantage, but i think she could compete on the men's tour, though she would be in the lower half of the top 100. [/ QUOTE ] I'd like to pile on and say this made me lol. It might be a match if you spot Serena a 30-0 lead in every game, otherwise she'd be embarrassed by Federer. And also the story about Serena challenging anyone on the men's side was this: she and Venus challenged anyone ranked below 200 on the men's tour to a match. Some guy that nobody's ever heard of (ranked like #205 or so) accepted and beat them both handily, I think 6-2 over Serena and 6-1 over Venus (or vice versa). |

At the Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida, teenagers are trained to become professional tennis players. They are put into groups based on skill level, doesn't matter if they are male or female. But there's one thing that is quite noticeable, the top six groups of 8-10 players are exclusively male. The seventh group has one girl, who just turned pro. And she's playing against guys that are struggling to make division one college tennis.
The top three groups play against professionals regularly. When playing men, they almost always lose, but the top group, consisting of kids that are expected to eventually be high on the circuit, win their share of matches against the men. Them playing professional women players, on the other hand, is another story. The top group rarely plays any of the women, because they are simply too easy to beat. Sixteen and seventeen year olds beating professional women easily? Shocking? How's this: A few months ago, Maria Sharapova won Wimbledon. The day after, she went back to Bollettieri to train. A few days later, she played a kid from Italy, fourteen year old prodigy Giaccimo Miccini. He split sets and she quit. |

Scansion,
Nothing new. I'd take one of my petite male friends over some top ranked women. |

Honestly I think the Williams sisters would have a great chance here. I get more frustrated than just about anyone when people talk of women competing with professional male tennis players, but a setup like the one suggested is extremely advantageous for any two reasonably skilled players.
The deficit between the sheer power with which the Williams sisters hit the ball as compared to a professional man is not that large. It's mainly their court coverage, consistency, and precision that's nowhere close to any professional man. Putting two against one neutralizes these weaknesses to a large extent. |

I'm not sure why most think Federer would lose. We used to call 2 on 1 "Irish Doubles" and found that the single player was the one with the advantage. So I say Federer easy on a singles court with the sisters on a doubles court. And I'd tip Fed to win the other two also. [/ QUOTE ] Can you explain why the singles player has the advantage? Because I was leaning towards the Williams sisters on all of these. |

[/ QUOTE ] If Shaq in his prime went up against two star WNBA players, do you honestly think the WNBA players would ever come close? How could they ever stop him? The gap in athleticism between the sexes in basketball translates almost identically to tennis. |

In tennis having two people really makes it much easier to cover more ground, which goes a long way towards negating his speed, as well as conserving energy and such. In basketball, on defense anyway, it doesn't matter. Shaq is a beast, and unless you are allowed to use foreign objects two smaller not very talented women aren't going to be much better than one. |

Do either of the Williams sisters have an excellent net game? by excellent i mean on par with someone on the mens tour? If both Williams sisters stayed back, yea, they could cover more ground, but all of Federers strokes are arguably the best in the world. His forehand especially would just over power them, imo.
Also on serves. Yea Federer's serve isn't 150 mph. But he gets a lot of aces because he has one of the most disguised serves out there. Also his second serve has an insane kick to it. I think this match would be an awesome one to watch, and would put money on Federer just because he does it all. |
