[ QUOTE ] sounds good. when was it made? [/ QUOTE ] 2006 it was a new release at Blockbuster, but I don't remember it hitting the theatres [/ QUOTE ] It was never given an official release in theaters. The studio decided to dump it straight to video, despite Director Judge's protestations. It has gotten mostly good reviews by those who have seen it. |

A buddy of mine watched this and said (facetiously) that he now knows what I feel like every day. I'd imagine it has to be a pretty good movie, since I'm sold on Judge's credentials (Office Space).

I thought it was pretty funny and I really liked the character who played the president.

I thought it was decent, but I felt as if most of the satire was only surface level deep, although that might have been due to reading about the movie beforehand and expecting more. I feel like I should watch it again though, because I'm sure there are quite a few jokes buried within the purposefully garbled dialogue. I do wish FOX hadn't f'd with the movie so much, as the final product is probably different than Judge's vision, which could have been Office Space quality.

Before that, it had been sitting on the shelf for over a year. |

because of this thread i went out and watched this film tonight. it may have deserved a wide release but it was not a good comedy, not even in the ballpark of office space.
the premise was amazing and had tons of promise. the last half killed it though. it should have been about lukes character taking advantage of his "genius" but instead turned into a run of the mill sitcom. if the movie lived up to the premise this had the potential of being a top 5 of all time comedy. unfortunatly judge took the easy way out. to me it was the exact opposite of office space and because of that i was thoroughly disapointed. his intitial scene in the future is him using his wits to break out of jail. it goes from that to him not understanding why he is a smart man or why he is qualified to be secretary of state. im saying don't watch the movie, you will be pissed after you do. right after i started watching my best friend called me to ask me what i was doing. told him i was watching this movie, then told him the premise. we both laughed together, making jokes for the next 10 minutes. unfortunatly those 10 minutes outlived the movie that followed. |

Well, the problem with a harmless lovable lead character is that he doesn't have it in him to take advantage of his superior intelligence. If he did, you wouldn't have a comedy. It would be more science fiction.

I watched it last weekend. My wife calls it "the worst movie she's ever seen." I'll just call it a failed attempt at a great idea. The problem with the movie is that the concept is great and it deserves to have an awesome movie attached to it. Instead it overplays the satire, the characters are too over the top, and the plot is too lame.
I agree with somebody else that it's a 2 star movie, with an underlying idea that easily could have been a 5 star film if done well. I mentioned some parts at the bar later and everybody thought it sounded awesome. Maybe Fox is to blame for this mess, I'm not sure. But if you have to rent it, beware. Idiocracy is nowhere close to as good as it sounds from hearing about it. |
