Sorry I wasn't clear. I think he's writing screenplays for tv shows/commercials/movies. But he can just explain himself, if he wants. I'm not positive. I just thought I would mention that his comments come from a specific context, so both he and turnip can be right...

i've realized that to actually be a writer, you have to just write every [censored] day, which for me has been extremely difficult with poker taking up so much of my time

for me, and many others I know in the arts, this is not really how the process works. you write because you need to write, or because you really love it, or both. at any rate it is certainly not something you have to make yourself do, and not something that a game like poker would take the place of. in other words, if poker were to go away tomorrow you would probably not fill that hole in your life with writing (maybe you would, but I wouldn't bet on it).

not to hijack the thread, but talk to me when you're able to make screw-you money playing poker

pot/kettle? I am not saying anything personal about you and probably shouldn't have directed it at you, the same thing is true of me and tons of other people I know. when I was playing a lot of poker when party was in full swing I told myself that once I slowed down I would have more time to compose, when I made a conscious decision to play less I didn't immediately start composing for the 2 hours/day I was playing, deadline or not. it's not some straightforward transition that once I stop doing A I'll just start doing B. this may not be true at all for you, but it's true for me and tons of other musicians I know.

i mean i totally agree with you in that respect, and no hard feelings. there are days i take off where i just don't write. is it a big issue for me? yes and no. what i meant by my earlier post is only that it's very hard to be consistent right now with all the other things i have going on. im just not serious enough about writing as a career, YET, if that makes sense. i still love to write and work on my craft often, just not as often as i know i should be.
