JB, I will pray for you, your wife and baby. Please make sure you ask questions and you have all info before you make any decision. You want to make sure you are not misled in any way. My uncle has a very healthy and gifted autistic child who supposedly had little chance of making it.

I will give a quick Twins update. I had a big thing typed up but pressed refresh on my computer and it was gone. I don't have time to retype so here are the cliffnotes:

We were scheduled for induction on Tuesday.
They phoned her to go down at 4 pm.
Started inducing at 5.
Heavy contractions by 8, they stopped inducing, contractions kept coming stronger and harder.
She got the drugs at 9:30, into the delivery room just after 10.
It was a big production, nothing like with my first 2 daughters. This involved about 7 nurses and 3 doctors.
The first baby came out, it was a boy (I knew before hand that they are identical which means....right on! 2 boys!)
The second baby was breach so the doctor reached in and yanked him out by his feet. He was quite a bit smaller but seemed healthy.

They were 6lbs 6 ounces (Riley) and 4lbs 7 ounces (Drew). They don't look identical right now, but they are.

Riley and my wife come home tomorrow (Saturday) and Drew will be in neonatal until sometime next week. He is progressing well but just needs time and monitoring over there, we have been bringing him pumped breast milk which helps him more then formula. We just bought a super-premo milk pump so my wife is going to start full scale production tomorrow.

I can't wait to have everyone at home. I have started a 6 month parental leave and I feel very blessed that it went this way and I didn't wind up with 2 more girls (just kidding) . My 3 and 2 year old girls are very happy and prepared for the babies also.

Congratulations to you all!

Twin deliveries can be quite an overwhelming production and I am glad it went off without a hitch!

Nice that you have that 6 month leave...you are gonna be running!

Found out yesterday the due date is 8/25/06.

The doc asked what were our plans were after this child. We told him that we wanted to get her tubes tied. He didnt like the idea considering my wife is 23.

He was telling us about a contraceptive called marina (sp?). A hormone ring implanted in the vagina that lasts five years and prevents ovulation during that time period.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with the doc not wanting to tie the tubes, but the couple was finsished having children.

I have a friend that had her first child around the same age as your wife, and she asked the doctor to have her tubes tied when she gave birth. She knew for sure that she didn't want to have any more children, but the doctor tried to talk her out of it because of her young age. The reasoning was that she might reconsider later that she did want another child, so he was reluctant to perform the procedure but he did when she insisted that she was sure of her decision.

Congrats phiphika1453!

I have to agree with the docs here. I have known many women older than your wife who have had a tubal and have regretted their decision. Especially since there are many very effective forms of birth control that allow you to change your mind and are much less invasive.

Mirena is an IUD that releases a hormone, levonorgestrel, which is the same med that is in Plan B or morning after pill. It is placed in the uterus(in the doctors office and takes about 10 minutes) and stays there for 5 years. Its easy to have placed and even easier to have removed. Minimal side effects from the IUD, most likely periods will eventually stop and almost as effective as a tubal.
I really have not heard many negatives to it, but there are always considerations.

Google Mirena IUD and there is quite a bit of info out there.

Vasectomy is also another effective means of birth control and its reversible, but also invasive.

Well, my girlfriend had our baby last thursday, 1/11. I had the initial due date of 2/27 on here, but a few months ago the doctors moved it back to 3/6.
Last Wednesday night, my girlfriend was worried that she hadnt felt him move much that day, so she made an appointment to see the doctor at 9am Thursday. They quickly discovered that there was a problem with the baby's heartbeat and sent us over to the labor and delivery at the hospital.

It didnt take the doctors long to decide that she needed an emergency C-section. They still arent really sure of what caused this, but they did say that if we were just a couple of hours later, that the baby probably wouldve been dead.

Nicholas was born at 32 weeks and weighed only 2lbs, 9oz. He will probably be in the NICU for a couple months. The good news is that there has been nothing but positive news so far. The main problem when he was born was with his lungs. There have been improvements with them, but he is still a ways from coming off the ventilator they say. There doesnt appear to be any other serious problems though. His blood pressure was very low at first, but he has already been taken off both types of medicine he was taking for that problem. He just started to receive breast milk for the first time yesterday. He only gets 2ml every three hours. All in all, the neonatologist is very happy with his progress so far.

My girlfriend was able to leave the hospital yesterday, so it is nice to be home. She is feeling pretty down though. She feels guilty about what happened to him, even though the doctors said that this was just one of those things and there was nothing she couldve done to prevent it. We are able to visit Nicholas in the NICU 24/7, but the good part about being at the hospital was that he was just down the hall. We are just getting ready to go and visit him in a few minutes. Thanks for reading.

If anyone has any questions, I'll do my best to answer.

Your girlfriend's prompt action saved your son's life.
Remind her of this, every chance you get.

We're pulling for him.
