Happy new year everyone! Just back from a long vacation, South Africa was great! But damn I don't see all the problems there getting fixed in the next 25 years.

Anyways December was crap poker wise off course since I've been in the SA sun most of the time. I did manage to earn $250 and the same amount in bonus, so still enough to eat. And I donated some pso points to charity 'brag'.

My January goal will be too clear my pokerroom bonus, and earn $500, I do have exams though so I only got like 14 days to play poker.Taking a shot at $100nl again will be postponed till next month, cause I really need to earn some money this month.

But anything strange happened the last three weeks in the poker world, or the unl community that I need to know about?

Good choice of country, and you're right with the problems.
Glad to see, you're not one of the many tourists that say stuff like "if the whites wouldn't be so racist all problems would be resolved immediately." The problems they've got down there are way more complex.

Where have you been? Seen Cape Town, Garden Route, and maybe a game reserve? Then you've seen the most beautiful parts of SA.

The problems are indeed more complex then that. It would be one big rant if I was going to continue on that subject though . But I've been to Cape Town, stayed in sommerset west, after that I took the plane to white river, near nelspruit, stayed in a couple of resorts over there near white river/hazyview/sabie, went on a 3day game drive in sabi sands instead of the kruger park (no idea if this was a good choice). And ended my vacation with a visit of a aids awareness project near grobersdal. It was all good, I wouldn't want to live in SA though, I prefer the west coast of the U.S. above the Cape Town area.

Sounds, good. I haven't seen Sabie Sands, but it shouldn't be that much different from Southern Kruger Park. I've visited Kruger twice, and it's just been awesome.
I'm a supporter of the aids awareness programs down there, but, unfortunately, the people that should recognize the threat aids poses to society and themselves - namely the majority of poor and/or uneducated people - simply don't.

Anyway, I haven't been to the US west coast, but I doubt I'll find it better than Cape Town area.
Also, Somerset West is a kind of a semi-beat, it's like new Germany. More foreigners than locals.

If you should ever happen to go down there again, don't pass up on the Garden Route - it's by far the most beautiful part of SA imo.

Yeah AIDS seems easy to avoid, yet people always think with their genitals . Anyways I know what you mean with your somerset west comment, it's definately true, I stayed at a B&B owned by a german, he was the most friendly german I met in my entire life though (and I met a lot of germans ), definately good times.

What I was wondering though, I'm a surf addict, and was slightly disappointed not being able to find a surfboard because all shops were closed (Christmas). So I just went for a swim instead, but practically nobody was in the ocean, they all said it was full of sharks. It was kind of weird swimming there all alone constantly checking if I wasn't being chased by a great white. Is the shark population really that high, or are South Africans just scared easily? . I'm seriously considering moving closer to the sea as soon as I finished my school, leaning more towards the area between San Diego/Los Angeles now. Cape Town didn't really live up to the image I had of it, don't get me wrong though it was still a great city!

I wouldn't mind them thinking with their lower regions, if they just used protection.

Yeah, there are a few nice Germans (I'm just going to be so bold and include myself), especially down there. After a while they seem to adapt the laidback life style from the capetownians.
It's just kinda weird to see them all flocking to Somerset - real Bratwurst colony.

I don't know where you've been swimming, but most beaches should be safe enough. I wouldn't go for extended swims in the eastern areas, though (Durban and 500km n/e, s/w) since those waters are really infested, not only with whiteys, but also the more dangerous bullsharks and tgersharks.
Not that it's likely that anything would happen, but the sharks per m^3 ratio is to high for my comfort.

Also, there are shark attacks on surfers (and sometimes swimmers) on a regular basis also around Cape Town (especially Hout Bay). So whenever something happens again, people won't go swimming until they've forgotten about ir (give or take 1 week).
In my last three years down there, there must've been like 10-12 incidents.

Having said that, I've been surfing a couple of times between Strand and Hermanus, and didn't feel scared at all. My buddy down there is surfing at least once a week in that area, and he only think he saw a shark fin once in his life. Could've been a dolphin, seal or whatnotelse. But he wasn't ging to paddle out there to find out.

Yeah, I absolutely understand moving to the sea. I'm missing the warm climate most, and Dublin with it's flat calm water doesn't feel like sea at all. It's just cold and wet. Eeeuw.

I'd love to go and see SD & LA some time, but haven't taken the time to do so, yet. I've preferred to go to SA or south eastern asia instead.

My graph so far in 2007

I play NL25 for only 2 weeks now, it's been treating me quite good...

I used to think that when I played sober I made much more mistakes, and when I drank a bit of beer, I'd make less mistakes. So I just drank beer and in the beginning of my graph --> beerdrinking it goes up, sober, it goes down...

Was having a blast playing while drinking a few beers though
But past few days I focus more on getting the errors out, instead of drinking beer and run with it

Villain was 52/10/1.5 over like 40 hands. Also 52% WTSD and 60% W$SD. Never folds to a cbet.

Was this river push fine? (I know it looks donkish but this guy was sort of a donkey. I thought he'd call with QQ TT obv or a straight.)
