[ QUOTE ]
The Jets were ranked between 20-25th in both offense and defense. This is one of the worst playoff teams ever who had the benefit of a very soft schedule. Look at some of the teams they beat: Green Bay, Miami, Oakland, Buffalo... Pats win going away. [/ QUOTE ] Wasn't Green Bay 8-8. 2 of the teams you named were division opponents. The Jets played in the toughest record wise division in the AFC. So basically they got in the playoffs because they got to play Oakland??? The Jets made the playoffs because they made clutch plays, were well coached, and had excellent special teams. Defensive and Offensive ranking isn't the only measure of a football team. This game is not as statistically clear cut as baseball is. The coachign and play calling matters. |

They beat Green Bay, who was 8-8 in the NFC North. They also got to play Minnesota and Detroit. They got to play Tennessee at the beginning of the year. And why does it matter that Miami and Buffalo are division opponents? I guess Seattle gets a pass for Arizona, St. Louis, and San Francisco, too?

The difference in the schedule was the Pats played Cincy and Denver, while the Jets played Cleveland and Oakland. Granted the Jets should win both of those, they split them, but they didnt even need the Oakland win to make it in, so Pats fans cant say anything about the schedule unless they want to start talking about their own soft schedule/inflated record. Cincy and Denver weren't exactly powerhouses this season. |

I'm not a stats guy, but my intuition is that people are focusing too much on the overall season numbers, rather than the last 4-6 games, which I think is a much more telling sign of where the teams really are at.
Of course, the Jets had an easy schedule compared to most of the league. But in the past 4 games, my subjective look at the team tells me that they are playing pretty well in all phases of the game. I can't go so far as to predict a Jets win, but I fully expect a close game. Remember, the Jets commit very few penalties and rarely turn the ball over. Also, the Pats never seem to rout anyone. So I predict a pretty close game, but one where Brady probably makes the difference and the Pats win. |

While the latest games do provide a better idea of a team's strength, you're limiting the scope far too much.
Jets have been trending upwards since their trouncing by Jacksonville, but they've been hardly spectacular. They got killed by Buffalo and they played horrible vs Miami. [ QUOTE ] Also, the Pats never seem to rout anyone. [/ QUOTE ] 5 wins by more than 20 points and another by 17. You don't get a point differential of 148 by not routing anyone. |

As it stands my AFC team has been the colts, which means I must root against the pats. Even though I think the winner of this game will lose to the Chargers in the 2nd round I guess for one day I will be rooting for the New Jersey Jets.
