[ QUOTE ]
Robin, The only thing that bothered me with your original statment is saying "Peter can only win by KO". Maybe I am misenterperting what you typed. Maybe you meant to say something like. "In this fight I believe that Peter is going to have to stop Toney because Toney is in better shape then before and will be more effective during this bout" I guess what you said before just seemed like a comment a new-to-boxing-rube was spout off. Peter can be Toney if it goes to the cards, only because it has happened. Hey I was totally shocked when Peter was announced the winner of the first fight. Truly did not see that one coming. Please don't keep saying Toney was robbed or the scoring was horrible. Showtimes' announce team, which top notch, even said it was a close fight and nobody thinks Toney was robbed on account of bad scoring. The first fight will not go down in anyone's "Biggest Screw Jobs in Boxing History". SHoot a bigger scoring problem is Kassim Ouma getting more then 1 maybe 2 rounds on the judges cards in his December fight against Jermain Taylor. I dare anyone to show me 3 rounds Ouma won in that fight, and some judges gave Ouma 4-5 rounds. That is BAD scoring. The same way you think Peter has to win by KO, I think Toney can only win by DEC, and seeing Toney KO Peter would be about as surprising as seeing Peter win the DEC over Toney (fight I) Tuds [/ QUOTE ] It is true, IN THE EYES OF TONEY FANS, Peter can only win by KO. With their fighting styles, it is nearly impossible for Peter to win another decision without it being "highly contested" again. Does anyone know if open scoring is going to be used? |

there was a poll among media after the first fight, and 25 of 27 boxing writers sitting at ringside had the fight for toney. only two people out of 27 people had it for toney when they watched it live at ringside.
even showtime's very own, al bernstein, had it for toney. most people who watched the fight live at ringside booed the decision. after the fight, many boxing writers and analysts who weren't at ringside but also watched the fight wrote about having given the fight to toney. there was also another poll where they asked even more boxing writers and media and something like over 80% had it for toney. yet two of the official scores had peter winning 116-111? Of course there was bad judging and scoring in this one hence the complaints. but it's all good. they are doing it again. can't wait to see it live at ringside, too! |

Peter by UD.
It appears he actually trained for this fight and his handlers are very good. He was well coached to say the least. J |

Peter looked great, like a real fighter! His shots were shorter, faster, and cleaner, and he conditioning was good. Also, he fought pretty smart, keeping his distance when Toney went to the ropes, and piling up points instead of trying to force a KO. You have to like him against Maskeav.

very hard to pick a fighter (peter) when his only shot at winning is by ko'ing a fighter (toney) - RobinFoolz [/ QUOTE ] There was a reason I thought this might have been the dumbest quote of the year on this board. It bothered me so much when I read it that I devoted 4-5 posts on it trying to get RobinFoolz to take it back, but everytime he kept by his logic that Sam Peter has ZERO chance to win a DEC, while I guess your boxing mind is not so great because not only did Sam Peter win this fight, but he almost shutout James Toney on the cards, IMAGINE THAT. I want to hear Robin's excuse for James Toney in this fight and give us(me) some BS reason James Toney really should have earned this DEC. Come on lets hear it since you are such a Toney sympathsizer. Like I said before Peter can win a DEC because he did it before. Think about Sam Peter has 2 DECISION wins over James Toney on his record and nothing/nobody can take those away. Argue all you want, but Sam Peter proved right now he is far and away the best fighter between the two. [ QUOTE ] Toney's ideal weight is 205 or cruiserweight. I have seen all of his fights in the last 5 years or since his last fight as a cruiser and he looked like a great cruiserweight, but as a heavyweight he looks fat, gassed, and lacking real power. - ME [/ QUOTE ] Also Robin, did you catch at the end of the fight Al Bernstein (my eyes the most knowledgable boxing commentator) said that Jame Toney is not a top heavyweight and if he wants to be a champion he needs to drop down to 205 and fight at cruiserweight, funny I think I said that earlier this week and you flamed me saying, something along the lines of; If Toney weighs as much as a heavyweight...then he is a heavyweight. Well Yes then he is a heavyweight...an AVERAGE Heavyweight. BTW: My $$ was on Toney to NOT with by KO, TKO, or DQ, and that might have been the safest bet under -600 all year in any sport (I got it at -550, sorry had to brad because it was about -1200 fight time.) Enjoy your $$ to anyone who followed my pick and took Sam Peter. Tuds |
