[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] charlie ward won the heisman, i should look up in an interview why he picked bball instead. [/ QUOTE ] Did he choose roundball over football? I know he went undrafted in the NFL, but I can't remember if that was because he said he'd rather play in the NBA. -McGee [/ QUOTE ] I think he accepted a contract from the knicks after being drafted by them, prior to the NFL draft. I personally think he would have been a pretty good NFL QB, as he was far more McNair than he was Ware or Vick. [/ QUOTE ] He wasn't on the level of any of those 3 QBs that you mentioned coming into the league. He was more of a Gino Terreta(sp?) type, who got drafted in the 7th round IIRC and was quickly out of the league. |

I'm sort of an Hakeem fan boy (even being a huge celts fan). Hence why I put him above Russell and Jabbar. I also take a look at Wilt's and Russell's career with a grain of salt. It's naive to think they'd be as dominant as they were in the same NBA that Hakeem played in. But I guess historically speaking, yes, Russell is a top 3 guy.
Anyway, main point is, there are 5 guys right away who are mortal locks above Walton, healthy feet or not. |

For what it's worth, this is one of the most entertaining threads I have ever read in the HISTORY of my 2+2 career. My favorite pastimes include making fun of Bill Walton as well as John Madden.
My favorite Walton story needs corroboration, because I didn't actually see/hear it. My best friend told me about this one: I guess it was a tradition whenever the Lakers played the Pistons for Magic and Isiah to kiss each other before the game. I think it was a pregame interview or something with Magic. Walton apparently asked Magic, "Are you gonna kiss him?" I hope this is true, but even if not, I'm going to pretend it is for the rest of my life. |

[during a dream sequence] Commentator: Patrick Ewing actually makes the jump shot, and the Knicks win an important game! Unfortunately, this doesn't have the awesome scene between Charles Barkley and Patrick Ewing that I was looking for but it's still awesome. [/ QUOTE ] I have no idea what this link is doing in this thread, but I enjoyed it thoroughly. Bill Walton is more entertaining than 90% of the broadcasters, whether you like him or hate him. I miss his Clippers telecasts. DN |

Deeznuts,
Thread hijack time! For some hot NBA-related moments, I recommend 9:06 and 18:33. The episode itself has some really good moments. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I would put David Robinson ahead of Walton any day. Also, dominating in college is totally different than dominating in the NBA. [/ QUOTE ] David Robinson was soft. [/ QUOTE ] and yet, still better than a prime Walton. [/ QUOTE ] If you give Walton a pair of feet that work, he is 10 times better than soft-as-kleenex DR. [/ QUOTE ] How the [censored] is D-Rob soft? All defense (1st or 2nd) team 7 times. Defensive player of the year in 1992. 6th all time in blocks? Are you for some reason basing this off of his mid to late 30's years? If he had landed in the NBA right out of college, his career numbers would be even better then they are. Duncan is also one of 7 people to have a 5 by 5 http://www.basketball-reference.com/...e_by_five.html BTW, Olajuwaon was an animal. And D-Rob was one of 4 people to have a quadruple double http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quadruple-double Although, blocks and steals weren't counted until 1984, so its likely Wilt and Russell had at least one as well. D-Rob could never have done what he did if he was soft. |

oh he was saying that? Oh yeah that's dumb. I think Hakeem is pretty close to Shaq in terms of peak dominance, but we'll never know. Hakeem certainly couldn't have stopped Shaq, but he could also make the big fella look pretty silly.
