My parents did this to me before, it sucked being on the recieving end, but after about 2minutes it is hilarious. I think there are a lot of uptight people in your family.

Remind me not to hang around you on April 1st, though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Context matters. Had this been a part of some April fools joke, my reaction would be entirely different (i.e., there's some expectation that this [censored] happens on April 1).

If I'm the cousin, I cut the cord on the joke after a minute or two. Enough time to get a reaction, not enough time for the pranked party to start pondering how their lives will improve by winning the 10k.

the guy who gave it didn't know who was gonna receive it, so obviously there was no malice behind it.

[/ QUOTE ]

So tricking a random person into believing that they've won $10,000 doesn't have any malice behind it because they didn't know who would recieve it? Wow. Ok.....

[/ QUOTE ]
sponger, i'm really surprised that this kinda sanctimony is coming from you of all people. in bbv guys that have just lost tens or even hundreds of thousands of REAL dollars are mocked mercilessly, guys go completely busto and jokes are made at their expense--i never see you finding any problems with that. in the case of this gag gift, the money was never won and never lost--the money never even existed. so they had a prank pulled on them but it just so happened that they were in financial straits so it hit too close to home, big deal, that's not the prankster's fault.

The most amazing thing about this story is that there's a company that manufactures these prank lottery tickets; there's a whole consumer market for people buying these things!? Not only is one ass pulling this bad gift, thousands of people must be doing it frequently!

WTF? In BBV, people make the conscious choice to gamble their money - and if they lose it, they lose it - and it is laughable. I will continue to make fun of Grimstarr when he loses. Not only that, they make the conscious choice to post in BBV and be mocked.

Here - the brother and sister-in-law have no choice - the gift is given to them. It's in very bad taste and is far from a joke, especially given their financial status - and letting it go for 15 minutes is even more reprehensible.

If you were going to do this, a minute seems about right - this way they don't really think they've pulled themselves out of the hole. Still, you are causing pain with this 'gift' - do you really think the recipients will laugh or smile good-naturedly at it? Will you, at them?

WTF? so when an alcoholic drinks himself into a stupor and drives his car into a telephone pole, that's laughable too?

What? Try making better analogies. The alcoholic probably isn't drunk driving for fun or profit. The degens in BBV are gambling ostensibly for their own profit and gain - or their own perceived edge.

All of this is distracting from the fact that OP's cousin is a total [censored] and this is a wretched 'gift' - and that Sponger taking the moral high ground isn't really outrageous at all.

good job qualifying your statement with "ostensibly," because you have absolutely no fvckin idea why someone else is gambling or whether that person has an addiction to gambling. and since you have no idea, then hey, it's perfectly fine to laugh at their misery. meanwhile, the guy that gave the fake lottery ticket is a douche. yup.
