[ QUOTE ] All we're saying is that it's an extremely dick move to give one of these to somebody who is having money problems. [/ QUOTE ] from later posts by the original poster: [ QUOTE ] my cousin did not know who would end up with the tickets it was clear that my cousin did not know the eventual ticket holder [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] The lack of reading comprehension/common sense that you are displaying in this thread rivals your performance in the Britney Spears thread. [/ QUOTE ] pot, meet kettle. [/ QUOTE ] I was fully aware that the cousin in the OP did not know exactly who would receive the ticket. It mitigates what he did somewhat, but not completely. If he wasn't such a jackass he would have considered who would possibly receive it. Here's a similar example. Let's say the party was composed of 9 people in their 30s with good senses of humor, plus someone's really conservative grandmother. And someobody puts a huge black dildo under the tree as a one of the gifts. Even though there's only a 1/10 chance that a person who would be offended by the gift would get it, it's still a dumb and inconsiderate thing to do. |

[ QUOTE ]
Sponger, Maybe I have an odd sense of humor or lack of compassion. Either way, I don't think these tickets are a big deal or worthy of all this discussion. It's a joke, if one feels the urge to harm themself or cry over it they should seriously consider re-evaluating their life. Again, it is tasteless if you know for a fact the person you give it to will react so emotionally. But you can't make that judgment on their credit score alone! Plenty of people in debt have a strong sense of humor and would not break down after receiving a freaking joke ticket. [/ QUOTE ] Why do [censored] always accuse other people of not "having a sense of humor"? If you had a sense of humor you would realize this practical joke is NOT FUNNY. There is no humor to be extracted. If you gain amusement from the misery of others you don't "have an odd sense of humor", you're just a [censored]. |

[/ QUOTE ] Good, Why do you continually make these ridiculous comparisons? Doing so indicates a lack of conviction and substance in your original argument. |

Do you think it would be funny if they were close friends? Hint: it would. [/ QUOTE ] No, I wouldn't think this is funny, but thanks for telling me what I feel though. I almost fell for it. See now this is a scratcher that I would find funny... http://www.prankplace.com/images/lot..._letemroll.jpg |

Fly,
The problem with what you're saying is any joke that could be received negatively is inherently wrong. Should safer gifts be given where there's next to no chance someone takes offense? Such censorship would really suck the fun out of friendship and gift giving. |

[ QUOTE ]
The only thing he did wrong imo was let it go on to long, I think 5 minutes tops before he should have fessed up. Also I would make sure someone with a good sense of humor got them. I did something similar to a girl I use to work with, except it was for the state lotto worth millions. I'm pretty sure that I am lucky to be alive after that stunt. [/ QUOTE ] What you did is like giving a village in Africa that's been ravished by famine 20 tons of grain only to tell them after they've started comsuming it that you spiked the grain with rat poison because you think Africans are rats. What you did is like showing a hobo a 10kg bar of gold and telling him you're going to give it to him but instead you beat him to death with the gold while pissing on him. What you did is like asking your fiancee to marry you but then on wedding day you don't show up and instead send a donkey to the ceremony on which you've spray-painted "GOTCHA BIATCH". |

The comedy, such as it exists, is that the person thinks something good happened to them that didn't. Censorship? Suck the fun out of friendship? Jesus, dude, remember when you got all upset at someone else for exaggeration? Normal people don't need gag gifts to get satisfaction from companionship and normal people do not think the goal of gift-giving is "provide me with a few moments of amusement at the expense of others." |

It would have been funny if everybody got a $10,000 winning ticket. That way that one those two people don't feel like the butt of the joke.

[ QUOTE ]
My financial status is irrelevant. [/ QUOTE ]I have no clue what your financial status is, but I totally disagree with this statement. Your financial status directly impacts your ability to sympathize and understand the situation. With that said, I agree with you...it was just a joke. No matter how long it went on, I don't think it was cruel or anything. |
