Kipin - you are not fat.

Those Addicted To Food - have you also considered trying to get addicted to exercise?

Al,

I don't think that's it, because I have held the belief that fat girls can be extremely pretty for a long time. However it may just be so unconscious of me to associate fat with ugly that I still get surprised by this.

El D,

Mandy Moore is a great example. This isn't the best picture of her, but it illustrates my point perfectly. You can't tell from this picture how fat she is, but even if she were I would still find her extremely cute.

I think it's in the dimples and the chipmunk cheeks, I guess I am just very attracted to them. So I suppose that if those fat chicks lost weight they would still have cute faces, but they would lose that "fat-chick glow" that many fat girls have, which I believe is also part of their cuteness.

mandy moore is fat? LOL NO. If it was a full shot of her and she happened to be fat, she wouldnt be as attractive

E,

"Easily said, I have an addiction to food. Same as person x is addicted to sex, person A to booze, person c to cocaine. When I eat I feel pleasure. Sure, the next day I feel guilty as hell, but its hard to contain."

Here's where I think you lose a lot of people. I feel great pleasure when I eat food as well. When I eat fried food and desserts and all sorts of crap, I want to eat more and more. But I restrain myself. I'm not really sure what you consider the difference between "addiction to food" vs a simple lack of willpower and self-discipline.

"I am currently very fat, but yet very happy."

"Do you know what Asthma feels like. Go grab a sack of potatoes, take 2 punches in the gut, and run with the sack on your back. Tell me how you feel. Not so good huh."

"Do you think it doesnt suck to need clothes from other stores and to not have the ability to enjoy basic privledges."

"See how the other half lives."

Hmmm, sounds like you might be happier if you took some steps to address your weight problem. I'm sure you are aware of some of the other health risks you face by being fat.

a black guy and a white guy - I won't hold a preference towards either

a short guy and a tall guy - Again, no preference

El D:

How tall are you, and what is your race? I believe this is relevant here.

mm,

I'm neither tall nor white, but I don't think that has much relevance here. You could pick just about any other factor male/female, gay/straight, whatever, and I don't hold the kind of natural bias that I do against fat people.

I think the difference is that with fat people I find at least some part of me thinking "How the f does he let himself get like that?" or "How the f can that guy stand to be like that?" which doesn't come into play in any of the other things mentioned like height/race/gender/etc.

I am the opposite, my heart goes out to them, and for the most part I think they are all genuninely good people. Its not like many of the people you have prejudice against havent tried to change thier situations/circumstances - its not fun for anyone to get "hated" on constantly in thier lives.

[/ QUOTE ]

if this post was made by anyone else i would call them a [censored] idiot, this is just kind of standard. "for the most part [fat people] are ALL genuinely good people"??? what makes them good people over any standard person? the fact that they are lazy and dont understand/care about nutrition?

"Its not like many of the people...havent tried to change thier situations/circumstances"

thats exactly the [censored] point. trying at all is one thing, trying the necessary amount is another. giving up because youre going to be happy with being lazy makes me have a complete disrespect for them. i have quit my addictions to laziness, food and drugs and i feel much better, it took a ton of work, but i'm still working and much happier and everyone around me notices. if i was still fat i would be living a much worse life, and all because i specifically chose to be lazy and stupid(about nutrition).

"the difference between hard and impossible is a thousand miles wide" is one of my favorite quotes ever. and is from a song specifically about dropping addictions. putting effort into things is exactly how one ends up with success. being fat is generally a side effect of being lazy and ignorant wrt nutrition. Therefore i am completely okay with a prejudice against fat people and i probably have one myself. i still think im a bit overweight at 6' 190, but its a hell of a lot better than my old 6' 240 and im still losing weight and gaining muscle everyday.

All,

This thread shows that the majority of people around here definitely are biased against fat people. However, when overweight people post threads about trying to get in shape and change their lifestyles, people are generally very helpful and supportive. Which leads me to believe that the core bias here really is against laziness, not fatness.

Fat people,

Not those of you just a little overweight, but people that others would generally look at and think, whoa that's fat.

If you aren't actively trying to change your life and get healthier, why not?

el d,

couldn't one posit that this means that society hates fat people and wants to be rid of them through either slimming them down or ignoring them/hating them?
