Discuss the positional advantage in the game of Post, as well as where your edge comes from.

The rules are as follows:

Every player antes $1. The action starts with the player left of the dealer. The dealer deals out two cards. If the first card is an A, the player may choose whether it acts as a high card or low card. The player must wager anywhere from $1 to the size of the pot that the next card off the deck will be between the two initial cards (if the cards are equal or connected, there will be a redeal). The player is paid even money if the card is in fact in the middle. If the card is outside the range, the player's wager is added to the pot. If the card is equal to either of the cards, then the player must forfeit double his wager to the pot. The game ends when one player takes the entire pot.

it's been said many times that SNGs are essentially a "solved" game in the SNG forum. do you agree? are there any other forms of poker which are "solved"?

Can you discern national characteristics in the way people from different countries play poker and/or gamble?

If you decide to take up this question, I'd be particularly interested in comments about French and Russian players.

......

Perhaps related, I remember hearing a fascinating theory once.

Throughout Russian history there have been a series of autocratic hard-man leaders, punctuated every few decades by violent revolution, leading to the ousting of the hard man.

But inevitably, before too long, once the revolution has run its course, yet another hard-man autocrat ends up in charge and so the cycle continues.

This can be explained, the theory goes, by the way Russian babies were swaddled: they are wrapped very, very tight from head to toe as infants. This constriction is relieved intermitently when the baby is changed/fed/washed...this in turn means the grown-up Russian is capable of bearing long periods of oppression followed by fits of intermitent revolution/release.

Vrai ou faux?
