what is a 60 wedge? pitching wedge? [/ QUOTE ] 60 degrees of loft on the face of the wedge. it's also called a lob wedge. I can't hit mine more than 40 yards or so, because i find that the harder i swing the less distance i get, it just goes higher in the air. for reference, a pitching wedge is 54 degrees, sand wedge is usually 56-58. My uncle has a "Tom Watson wedge" that is 64 degrees. |

Lofts vary slightly, but a pitching wedge is usually about 48 (or lower on most blades). Limon, great thread. There are a few things I want to ask either later or tomorrow. One of the best "Ask me" threads I can remember. |

[/ QUOTE ] you should be able to hit your 60 110yds ez controllin ball flight by movving it back in your stance (the tiger woods stinger) your problem is your "hitting" the ball and have an outside in swingpath which increase the effective loft of the wedge. by the time you make caontact your 60 is an 80. |

[/ QUOTE ] yea i know, but if i'm between 40 and 125 out i just hit varying strengths of a pitching wedge. I really only use the 60 when i'm around the green and need to get up and down (which is pretty much every hole). also i'm just a recreational player (around a 15 handicap). |

tl:dr all, but i question the short game "trap" - I mean I can tell pretty quicly whether a guy is lucky or good, especially after a couple holes. i don;t even watch the ball - good technique can't be disguised.

[/ QUOTE ] lucky my technique is strange. what do these guys have in common, all mexican pros, all black pros exept tiger, ray floyd. hint: strange technique, huge gambling wins. (floyd has some massive losses as well according to trevino) |

this thread is great, it reminds me a lot of the pool "matching up" thread by jimbo. i love stuff like this, even though i've never played golf in my life. added link to jimbo's thread for those who might be interested. |

limon, do you take 1.5 seconds on your chips too, or do you take a little bit more time there too?
can you go into more detail on the different types of bets that people make on golf (i'm only familiar with a few), and what kinds of games are advantageous/disastrous for those different bets? also, and i know that this will be hard to describe but: how do you size up someone's game? is it just experience and feel and then you watch them and analyze, or is there something more specific you can garner by looking at their scores on different holes over the course of a round. great thread. |
