[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Everyone is missing the point. When looking at the better hand you should be thinking about rate of change of EV. That's why AQ is better here, its EV improves with time as opposed to JJ who's EV/sec decreases. Mason is clearly thinking on the next level, so to speak. I think there is a quote from Richard Nixon which is appropriate here, something about inflation. [/ QUOTE ] Please elaborate. [/ QUOTE ] I am elaborate. As proved elsewhere in this thread. EV (JJ) when AQs folds = $55 EV (JJ) when AQs calls = $40 EV (AQs) when AQs folds = $0 EV (AQs) when AQs calls = $15 Therefore, given that it takes x seconds to turn a playing card over. Rate of change of EV (JJ) = (40-55)/x = -15/x $/s Rate of change of EV (AQs) = (15-0)/x = 15/x $/s 15 > -15 Therefore AQs > JJ. |

wow, what a long thread. is there good content here or this all a fight for ego? or, as some sources tell me is this a good thread to read for amusement because of a certain masked man demolshing a certain 2+2 publisher's analysis?

WTF? Is this some sort of sick joke?
I'm a reasonably bright guy (read: not MIT), and I think poker is interesting. I actually thought the BVGT trainwreck of a thread was interesting: I sat down and did a weighted EV calculation that 1) answered a bunch of questions for me that weren't adequately answered by all of the intuition being thrown around in the thread 2) taught me a couple of things about how to do weighted EV calcs correctly 3) gave me some insight on how to hone my intuition both at and away from the table. So, sweet. I thought I'd do the same thing here: use some reasonable assumptions and do some EV calcs. I did that. Guess what .. I got the same thing as El Diablo. In the BVGT thread, I think people were, in the end, arguing about the strength of reads. Here, I'm just totally baffled. It seems like they're arguing about math. But the math seems clear. WTF? As a low-limit newbie, I have no idea what to think here. If it's really as clear-cut as it seems, why do Mason and El D. disagree? |

[ QUOTE ]
Read Mason's Analysis post to understand the assumptions that result in the probabilities he uses. [/ QUOTE ] Don't need to, my probabilities are correct. But does it really matter? You are a rich top notch poker player and I am a dumb unemployed person trying to learn something. It must be nice to be you! |

I am simply waiting for an explanation from Mason, David, or Ed as to why Mason is mocking his opponents because when given the choice to make either $40 or $15, they think it is better to make $40. |

sorry if you took my "elaborate" post seriously El D...was just mocking the other hundred 2+2ers who have overused the word in this thread. I agree with what you are saying and hope mason gives a satisfying response to finally end this thread.
