I had tears in my eyes when I left Fahrenheit 911. Then two of my friends who I was with sighed and let out a loud "god that was boring!" and that just made me sadder.

The scene where the screen is just black and you can hear the news report of the planes hitting the towers is the first time I really, really 'felt' the impact of 9/11 on a visceral level. Just watching it on TV was too surreal for me to appreciate its impact entirely.

Oh I thought of another that's golden :

The Celebration

If you like sad movies you have to see this, unbelievably brutal and powerful.

Also "Mifune" the scandanavian one not the japanese one, it's similar to of mice and men.

My wife bought this movie about a couple of months after my dad died. I wouldn't watch it. (I didn't watch any dramas at all for a long time after he passed). A few months ago I plugged it in on a Sunday, my wife headed upstairs when it started which is unusual as she can see a movie multiple times. I bawled like a baby during the movie and then got kinda pissed at her for letting me watch it, knowing how powerful it was.
