JJN - I think KKF was kind of getting at this... I think you're referring to BBQ only places (if you just go to a Soon Doobu place, or noodle place, much cheaper). In LA, there's definitely a market for a slightly cheaper BBQ restaurant, and most are priced in the range you mentioned. In fact, some of the best ones in LA (Shik Do Rak, Sa Rit Gol) are slightly cheaper than average place (which tells me quality doesn't suffer).

I would wager that's in part because you're good at finding hole-in-the-wall like places up in the North End. Imagine Korean Food on some Wild Ginger type [censored], then it probably does get pricey.

Yeah, really. Maybe its the fact that those places you've lived are generally expensive AND that the Pacific Northwest has a decent sized Korean population. There are pretty big communities in Tacoma, Federal Way, and Lynnwood. There are also a number of military bases in the region as well. Most of the Korean people I have known are here because of the military, including my family.

I'm sure that this might have something to do with it, but there aren't a lot of upscale Korean restaurants in the area that I know about. I've tried a couple of places downtown, but they weren't super-expensive either.

The most expensive one i know of is blue ginger in bellvue. But there are several better and less expensive options here.
