I have a feeling this was a bad move and we're gonna be in serious trouble in 5 moves

I said this a few post back.....

[ QUOTE ]
I agree if we play Rc8, I think his move is Qd3. I think he’s taking a very deliberate approach, trying to eliminate counter play, and focusing on our “weak” d pawn.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just repeating this now as I think its time we are going to have structure our thoughts around his long term plans at least as much as specific variations of we can go to Qg4... etc...
If this was a correspondence game that I had my soul into I’d be taking all of the pieces off the board and playing this out K vs K, R vs R, 2R vs 2R and B vs N......

Ne4 is ultra-easy and standard follow-up here.

It's not a heavy piece you can just as easy move it to g4 or h5. Suggesting that it is a standard follow-up without anything to back it up is not very helpful. If Ne4 is standard so is Re6, Qd7 and most other random moves, cause I said so....

And from e4 what are you doing with the knight?

I think it's just a good all-around move. It allows us to play f5 if we so desire, puts some pressure on f2 (and g3) which might be handy, allows us to whip the Queen across to defend, or to attack and has the option to nip into c5 if it wants to to attack the Queen. I'm sure that some of those are currenly redundant, but also that the combination of those 'threats' would be quite handy to have.

Is QE7 Awful? With the intent of forcing a queen trade and un-isolating our pawn.

I don't think it's awful both of these concepts are good things so it's a worthy suggestion. I would still think in terms of what kind of ending we want, but if get our pawn un-isolate that changes everything. Of course that's not going to happen, if we play Qe7 he will move the king or play Bb2 so he can double our gf pawns if we get rid of the isolated pawn.... Or.. something else but he's not going to let us get rid of the isolated pawn for free....

What is his plan? Probably Bb2, to help prevent us from advancing the d-pawn. He can then move Rad1 to put pressure on the d-pawn. He can follow up by lining up both rooks on the d-file.

If we move Ne4, we can follow up with Nc5, forcing him to move his Q (trying to prevent him from loading up the d-file), and later Ne6, supporting our pawn push to d4.
