Do you guys seriously think that the bozo in the White House and his fascist minions give a damn about the WTO? Hell, they don't care what the UN or anybody else in the world thinks about us.

[/ QUOTE ]

When the WTO starts granting people immunity from American copyright laws, they'll care. Not because they'll care themselves, but because our corporations will get pissed.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think this sanction has teeth. The US may not care about the WTO, but they will care when American companies start contributing to their opponents campaigns because their opponent is in favor of regulating online gambling and complying with the WTO.

Not a short term help, but may help before the banking regulations kick in.

Possible?: The study bill could amend the 270 day study to a longer period of time, allowing for a study. The banking industry would likely support this, and now that Frist's little manuever has made him the new Abramoff, there might be a correction mentality in the next session. WTO sanctions would go along way to help this. No?

Will others try writing to the EU to get them to put pressure on the US via WTO

My note to the EU

http://ec.europa.eu/commission_barro...ontacts_en.htm

Dear Peter,

I am writing to you as a UK citizen who is very concerned about the attaching of the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement act to the port securities bill in the USA. This bill is in direct contradiction of the WTO ruling in the Antigua case. Instead of amending the legislation to allow foreign competition this legislation makes it absolutely clear that no change to the existing laws is intended it is just about expanding the enforcement measures for laws the WTO have already ruled are anti competitive.

When this bill was passed some companies such as Party Gaming lost 60% of their stock value as soon as the London Stock Exchange opened. In my opinion the US government is just protecting it's own gambling trade, for example they are still allowing Lottery and Horse racing bets and of course their own casinos to trade, so this is obviously not a matter of morality. As so much damage has been done to companies listed on the London Stock Exchange I feel that the EU should be working with the WTO to stop America from protecting it's own trade at the expense of Europe's. I hope you feel the same way and can do something about this unfair USA law.

I believe that the EU should make clear their opposition to this bill before President Bush signs it into law this week.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to hearing from you.
