All I'm saying is that whoever runs as the republican in 08 will not be affected by Bush's poor ratings today.

The public is fickle, easily swayed by photo ops, and has a short memory. I put the 08 race like so:

Republicans; 50% chance to win.
Democrats: 50% chance to win.
The people: screwed.

Today the most pro-Bush of the major polls came out with a 6-point drop for Bush:

Just after the election, Bush said: "Let me put it to you this way. I earned capital in the campaign, political capital, and now I intend to spend it. It is my style."

Clearly he has spent just about all his political capital and then some. What do you think he got in return for his big spending?

It's looking like he got nothing. And I don't think he's going to get a refund.

Where's Grey? I'm going to guess the title of his next post. Will Bush go into the 20's?

Does anyone know what the Lowest ever is?

Honestly I'd guess 35?

I was wondering where Grey was myself...come back Grey!

Edit: Turns out Nixon dropped to about 25 in 1974.

People are results oriented, so it really depends on where the country is.

I will say, for Bush to have a lower than 35% approval rating, something absolutely catastrophic must happen in the next few years.

It's much easier for Bush's approval rating to get higher right now.

When Bush goes out and speaks his numbers tend to rise. It happened during last year's election. Right now you only hear one side of the story from the media, so his poll numbers are supressed, but that is only temporary.

Temporary indeed.
