[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Degen - this might be too broad a question, but if I had a week in Thailand, what cities / beaches should I hit? -Al [/ QUOTE ] Are you into nightlife, natural beauty, culture? Maybe just give me your age/relationhip status or something. It is a very diverse country even though what people hear about is a pretty narrow set of activities. [/ QUOTE ] Degen - thanks, I'm 30 and into beaches and nightlife (at least that's what I'd try to get out of going to Thailand I think). I'd be going with a group of friends around my age (all single), guys and women. I guess cause it'd only be a week, I was thinking like "how long to stay in Bangkok, which beaches with limited time to hit" kind of question. -Al |

This question is for any of the thai experienced. With the thai people making like $500 a year, there must be times when you make $5000 in 15 minutes playing online that you feel like making your girl or some random thais day and dropping a years salary on them as a tip. From people who have visited thailand ,I know this is very frowned upon, but have never gotten an adequate explanation as to why.I imagine that it would have something to do with throwing off the whole balance, and generally over time, making it more expensive for anyone visiting. Is this the reason, and if not,why is it frowned upon? And have you ever done it anyways?I know I would really struggle making 20K on a good night and knowing someone I like is struggling on $500 a year.By the way I am not trying to sound overly generous but can occasionally do something nice for someone besides myself(rarely)

Any idea about the banking situation in Laos, Malaysia, etc? Links? My searches have been useless, then again I have performed exactly zero sober actions in four days. It hurts, it hurts so bad |

Can you drive with your normal U.S. drivers lic? Motorcycles too? Are scooters/motorcycles common or feasible there? What about auto or motorcycle insurance? What about owning auto or motorcycles? Thanks a lot for all of the information! "you gotta be f'n crazy to bank in SE asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos et al)."
Why? With the Gov't change do you think there is a chance they would confiscate the funds? Or is it something else? I am a U.S. citizen (unfortunately) but I married a Thai woman and bought a condo here in my name and I keep a large amount in the bank so I could get the 1 year non-immigrant visa. How safe is the Siam Commercial Bank in your opinion? |
