[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Harrison Ford in Apocalypse Now. I didn't read the thread so that was probably mentioned, [/ QUOTE ] Yes. Try reading the thread next time. What I was extra surprised about was that he accepted such a geeky small-time role. This was 3-4 years after Star Wars, but maybe SW was more of a cult piece and at the time he was starving for work. I dunno. Suffice it to say, him playing the role of random four-eyed gopher seemed strange to me. [/ QUOTE ] Star Wars was huge in the Box Office ('77 I think) but Apocalype Now(79) apparently took 16 mos. just to shoot. I bet he was part of the project before he even started to get popular from SW. [/ QUOTE ] But, Ford did play a waiter in (I think) Breakfast at Tiffany's and even had a line I believe. I'm not goint to look at IMDB to check it though. [/ QUOTE ] No, Ford's first movie is "Dead Heat On A Merry-Go-Round" (1966). He plays a bellhop with one line, I believe. It's on TCM occasionally. [/ QUOTE ] You're right, I'm sure. I was trying to remember the movie from his interview on Letterman or whatever. I remember the scene and the story very well, where the studio exec told him, "See, when we take Tony Curtis and get him to play a waiter, and you still see a movie star up there." And Ford replied, "That's funny, I thought you were supposed to see...a waiter!" |

I wasn't going to respond to this thread but there is one guy that the beginning of his career was only these kind of movies who is now a big name, he has been touched on a little bit in this thread with "The Cable Guy" and "Dead Man Walking" but Jack Black has also been in "Enemy of the State," "Waterworld" (As mentioned in The Lounge, btw), "The Fan," and "Mars Attacks!" This guy should actually have stayed in the background too.

John Cusack plays one of Anthony Michael Hall's dork friends, and sister Joan plays the girl with the headgear, in Sixteen Candles.
I remember going WTF when I saw Ben Affleck in some HBO after-school special about steroids. |
