Texas is ironically a legal poker wasteland, so going around it and through a poker state is +EV.

And if you take I-10, you'll be in Texas for 879 miles.

On the other hand, when you get to West Texas you may see this sign:

Well, I'll be driving a U-haul so I'm not sure 80 MPH will even be possible, or prudent, lol. At this point (at any point actually) TX sounds like a good place to avoid. Good rooms in OK and NM sound like good diversions

Thanks again everybody for your help. Look for a trip report in a couple of weeks.

Try this:

Take I-10 into Mississippi and play there. Then onto N.O. to play at Harrah's. Next, take I-10 out of N.O. and take I-310 south to Hwy 90. Go west on 90 for about 1 hour to LA Hwy 83 (The Baldwin Exit) and go 5 miles to Cypress Bayou Casino.

Get back on Hwy 90 and head into Lafayette, call me and I'll take you to some local bar games. Next, take I-49 north out of Lafayette to Exit 53, the Bunkie exit. Follow the signs for 25 minutes to Paragon Casino.

After Paragon, continue north on I-49 to Shreveport and spend some time playing there. Take I-20 to Dallas, then north on I-35 into Oklahoma...etc.

Have fun!

The current (yet tentative) itinerary, looks something like this: Rome, GA to N.O., have a look see and play some poker, then north to Tupelo for some golf, over to Tunica and Memphis, then west on I-40 with some stops in OK and NM for some poker. South on I-17 and maybe one last stop at Cliff Castle and on to Phoenix.

How far from N.O. to Lafayette? Is Harrah's the best place to play in N.O.?
