Explain this one to me. He made an aggressive big stack play against Kanter to lose his chip lead, but was still an average stack. Then he got all-in against Dannenman when SD had only 5 outs. Then he lost a coinflip. Is this really a meltdown?

If I remember correctly he had a HUGE chip lead at the final table and just blew threw it in no time. I could be wrong somebody else can probably find the exact numbers. If I get time I'll go back and watch it on DVD and see what the counts were

Black didn't choke anywhere near as extremely as Lazar. Ad neither comes close to John Shipley's meltdown in 2002. More than double anyone else in chips to start the FT, and he ends up going out 7th!

Vahedi's meltdown a couple years ago was pretty embarassing also.

you have no idea what you are talking about.

if anything, andrew black made an amazing call against dannenmann.

dannenmann managed to suck out that hand, got a ton of chips, and proceeded to win a coin flip to knock andrew black out of the tournament.

If you want to talk meltdowns, Scott Lazar (2005 main event final table) going from healthy to bust in about 3 hands has to rank near the top. Didn't he call an all-in from Black with like QTo due to tilt?

Yeah, all the talk about Black's "meltdown" or "choke" at the FT last year is overblown. He didn't make any single terrible plays. He picked a bad spot to be aggressive against the biggest tard at the table who just happened to have a big hand and then caught the bad end of the variance stick the rest of the way.

Lazaar on the other hand did in fact meltdown, blowing through his entire stack in mega -EV situations (no way he thought he was ahead on those hands).

These of course are "series" of plays, just like Tiffany Williamson's repeated all in's with A/x vs KK or QQ and hitting her A quite often. Each one is "bad" but when viewed as a series it's like "Ewwwww!!!!"

If you want the single WORST play or mistake the set of ten's fold is pretty good, or heck if you want a more obscure one how about this year when a no name guy apparently called an all in on the river with nothing.

Like Kevin McBride in 1998? "Call. I play the board."

Never heard of this hand until ESPN showed during their Scotty N segment. Does anybody know how many chips were at stake when he made that call?

"I play the board", was about the last thing I expected him to say.

From Conjelco, Nguyen had about a 4.5-1 chip lead.
