[ QUOTE ]
From what I have seen, as a person, Phil Helmuth doesn't deserve any respect. [/ QUOTE ] LOL. Like you know him. You can't even spell his name correctly. You could maybe say that, at the table, he's a brat sometimes. But away from the table? I'm wondering what experiences you've had with him to make this statement. |

Why do people try to find a corelation between when someone does somthing well and what kind of person they are?
Yes Phill is a bratt in every aspect of the word. big deal, he is a poker player not a politician (he doesnt lie convincing enough) He just needs to meet with Terrell Owens and complain to each other how they are so misunderstood |

Phil Helmuth is just such a baby it is hilarious. I love to watch him on TV. As for the people celebrating when he got knocked out, well, hellmuth earned it.

[/ QUOTE ] Helmuth has spent years cultivating the image as the "poker brat". This is his claim to fame. Regardless of what he's "really like", this is the persona that has made him popular. The fact that people cheered when he busted out just means that people still love to hate him. This is the type of reaction that he expects and wants. Pity him as much as you'd pity the "bad guy" in WWE wrestling. |

Of course I've never met Hellmuth in person, and I'm sure he's nice to his wife, old ladies, and puppies, but he is a complete [censored] whenever I see him on TV.
He is an insecure jerk who wants everybody to know what a great player he is and what an idiot every other player is. The "this guy can't even spell poker" diatribe was one of the most assholish things I've seen anyone do, and I can't believe he continues to get away with this type of crap. Great player? Obviously. Deserving of respect? [censored] that. He is poker's version of Barry Bonds--a serious [censored] with serious game. |

[/ QUOTE ] I've never heard Phil Hellmuth telling 8 year old boys to "[censored] Off" when asking for an autograph. You know obviously know NOTHING about Bonds and Hellmuth away from the field and table, so just keep your trap shut. Hellmuth is good friends with MANY, MANY pros and a very nice guy away from the table. Bonds is an [censored], on the field, off the field, and wherever he is. This has been confirmed by about a couple hundred people in "Love Me/Hate Me". I've never heard a single person comment that Phil was abrassive or rude to anybody away from the table. The only people who probably have a problem with Phil away from the table are those with confrontational/bully personalities, such as Sam Grizzle. Phil says what he thinks. There's not a person in here who hasn't ranted to themselves, "God what a [censored] idiot, I can't believe that guy just did that." Pnil lets it out at the table, that's his one vice. Get off his case. There are far worse [censored] in the poker world than Hellmuth. |

[/ QUOTE ] So your defense of Hellmuth is that he's not as big of an [censored] as Barry Bonds, that he has friends and he's a nice guy away from the table, and that there are poker players who are worse? High praise indeed. He's an [censored] at the table. I don't care why he is, whether it's for money, or exposure, or what. The way he acts at the table is appalling, and I don't care if he's nice to people elsewhere. It still makes him an [censored]. |

I see beratement in every tourney I play. Watching it snowball is a nice subplot between hands. Many posts on this forum berate players ..."villain is a DonkTard..." etc. Beratement can be an effective slap to the face/motivator to improve one's play once the verbal dust settles. I like the open honesty of Hellmuth, saying what everyone thinks (or says to a friend) at one time or another. I have not heard him go over the line once. He is a GREAT HE tourney player with some self esteem issues. His is one of many ecclectic personalities that make poker fun. Don't get me wrong, Lederer,Ferguson and especially Raymer are great ambassadors of Poker but the flavor Hellmuth brings is undeniable.

PH does what it takes to get noticed and on TV. He probably makes more $$$ through endorsements, books, dvds, his poker camp, etc than any other player today.
On top of that he is still a top level player, as shown by his final tables, and 10th bracelet this year. Respect him or not, you can't say he isn't a damn good player. |
