as far as letters go, it's not too bad. there are some minor redundancies, and style is questionable at points. however, my main problem with it is that letter writing is, by and large, an inappropriate mode of communication with one's parents at age 18 (maybe ok if the individual is living away from them at boarding school, etc)...
