Yeah, it certainly doesn't always work for me either....
My thinking was that villain was either drawing or on a completely mediocre hand, based on his line. Which means that whatever I bet, chances of just folding him out and getting nothing extra are pretty good. So as a river for value betting, this one's probably only worth about $2, maybe $3. You bet half pot, get called some of the time but not all. But if I push, and he only calls that push a measly 5% of the time, I've done just as well. So what the hell, in it goes. There's always that chance, however small, that villain will put you on a stone bluff, or likewise have some other stupid thought, whatever it is, that results in him calling. I was just hoping that chance was better than 5%. An orbit or two later, I flopped a nut straight that held to the river, and with the same opponent I pushed again. He didn't call that time.... |
