I hope this goes well for you. I love that you have a bigger goal than "I like money" as the object of your challenge. The rapid moving up through limits sort of sets this one apart (or does it, I dont follow many of these). Good luck.

All full.
I don't know shorthanded play well enough at this point to play it full time, because the swings are just insane and moving up is hard enough at a game I'm comfortable with. I might start some shorthanded play in the future, but not right now. Thanks for the support, Jon |

[ QUOTE ] Not to be a dick, but this is getting to the point, where I should just do a "I will make $250,000 in a year challenge!". It's kind of dumb and not really a challenge when it is basically your goal for the year (or most of it). Meh, I dunno... [/ QUOTE ] i'm thinking of a word that starts with a "d" and ends with an "ouchebag" [/ QUOTE ] Is it douchebag? |

Perseus,
Best of luck to you in this thing. I think it's good that you structured just 30,000 hands per month, because that will make this thing really manageable for you over a six month period. Looking at your structure, I think you may have set your bankroll threshold's for moving up to be a little low. You'll be moving up to 15/30 with about 600 big bets, which is fine as long as you're willing to move down. However, for a challenge such as the one you're doing, this could and probably will hurt your chances quite a bit. What you're basically making yourself do is run good each time you move up to a new limit. I realize you're going to have almost 1,000 bets for the 20 and 30 games when you get there, but bankroll isn't going to be your only consideration. Are you going to be ready to lose $12,000 over a bad two day stretch when you get to 30/60? Anyways, I'm not trying to be a downer, and I'm really interested in your progress. I guess I'm just trying to warn you that this thing will be anything but easy. Best of luck, Justin |

Justin,
The reason I set my standards for moving up so quickly is because I wanted to make this more of a challenge than it otherwise would be. As it is I'll have at least 500BB's when I move to each level, so I don't think I'm taking too much of a chance. Also, I am absolutely moving down if I get closet to 500BB's of the level below (So at 15/30 I'll move down if I ever get to 10-11k). Another strategy might be to step into each level gradually, so that when I reach 13k I play 3 10/20 and 1 15/30, and at 14k split it 2 and 2...and so on. I completely agree that this will not be easy. My original idea was to be extra conservative with moving up, but then it would be more of a long term plan than a challenge. I have seven months before I start grad school, I'm not supporting anybody but myself, and I have the bankroll. I've been playing for two years without taking a real shot so I figure now is the best opprotunity I'm going to get... As I mentioned in my blog I started off losing 100BB's in around 300 hands on Sunday. At first I was severly disappointed about the amount of money (2k) that I lost in such a short period of time, but when I reminded myself that it's only 100BB's and I've lost 100BB's many times before I was OK. There are going to be numerous times I get thrown off track, both good and bad, but the best thing I can do is put in the hands, constantly improve, and hope for the best. Good luck on your challenge too, Jon |
