Get on a sim again for sure. If your spin rate is high try the Cleveland HiBore. If your spin is low try the Cleveland Comp. I think ideal numbers are spin 2200-2800rpm, luanch 12-14 degrees and ball speed 1.5 times your swing speed. The cally Fusion is really long but sounds like you are hitting a ball with an aluminum bat. The 905r is a sweet club but it is a very high spin club. The pings and TM's are really nice. FWIW 975D was one of the best drivers ever but you will gain if you get one of the newer drivers fitted properly.

As far as balls same deal. If you have high spin #'s go with the prov1x. If you have low spin go with the prov1. Bridgestone's ball is for low spin players and the new Cally ball is supposed to be really good also(HX i think).

Shafts are better now also. The green one (NV i think) is pretty popular right now and should fit nicely with your club speed. The blue one (grafalloy) sucks IMO but some people swear by it. The yellow and grey one (V2) is really good also.

I love my ERC Fusion, and so do all my friends who hit it from time to time.

Cleaveland Launcher Comp
.......

That's my suggestion but you better call around and find a driving range that lets you hit clubs on the range.

To all who are recommending a session on the launch monitor:

Have you typically done this at Golfsmith or somewhere similar?

I've hit clubs in the nets before, mostly just trying out a demo here and there, but I was wondering how well the performance on the indoor monitor translates to an actual golf setting?

This is a good suggestion. Be sure to compare it to the Launcher Comp. I hit this club a mile and it's about $150 cheaper.

I had bad luck with the indoor thing. Better luck at an outdoor fitting where different loft and shaft combinations could be used. I had a mixed up bunch of stuff that sort of worked and didn't work together. So when Ping came to my club for a demo day I went and demod drivers and fairway woods and got stuff that worked and worked together better through the bag. I don't care that much about brand. Ping seems to do more fitting and I am in a remote area. In a bigger place you get more choice, but the loft and shaft combination is more important than the brand IMO. I don't know if I'd get ping woods again if I had a choice of fitting with all kinds of clubs. They are fine, but so are the other brands. Fit is key and seeing how a ball comes off in real life is better than the nets and the indoor thing. Might depend on who does it too.

It depends on who is doing it. I was fitted outside with prov1's by someone i really trust. Really try to get fitted outside if anyone in your area does this. I have heard of some retail stores jacking with the results on indoor monitors in order to sell you a club but i'm pretty sure this isn't the norm. Also getting the #'s right may not be exactly what you want. You may prefer to hit the ball higher or lower than what some retail guy tells you you should be hitting and seeing the flight of the ball outdoors always helps.

Hrm. I was actually at one of the courses around here for the Ping demo day, but was just hanging out while my fiancee was getting fitted for irons. Oh well...we're going to try and take a lesson or two sometime after July 4th, so maybe I'll wait until the instructor tells me to completely change my swing before making my next equipment purchase.

I'm in kind of a weird place right now, as I'm pretty happy with my irons distance-wise, not the prototype OOT bomber, but I'm a 15.6 and typical 6I ball flight is high, slight draw, and 150-155 carry.

However, my driver ball flight is way too high, IMO, and with flat, no-wind conditions, a "normal" shot will only fly around 210-220, and the ball looks like I hit it with a damned 8I or something.
