Ononimo's Top 5 All-Time Dunkers
1. Carter - Pound for pound and inch for inch, the best overall combination of creativity, finesse, power, and, at times, pure viciousness. And the dunk over Frederic Weis is one of, if not, the best in-game dunks ever. 2. Jordan - his hangtime, speed to the basket, and ability to make even the most simple dunks look like poetry in motion is beyond compare. 3. 'Nique - the first to regularly combine acrobatics and brute force into his dunks in game settings... the first hybrid between the Dr. J school (finesse) and the Chocolate Thunder school (power) of dunking. 4. Dr. J - a pioneer due to his finesse ... introduced the concept of "hangtime". 5. Darryl Dawkins - pure brute force with demoralizing consequences for the opposing team. singlehandedly responsibly for changing how backboards were constructed. Darryl Dawkins and Dr. J were the building blocks. 'Nique was the first to fuse those two schools. While Jordan was the ultimate refinement of the Dr. J school, Vince is the ulitmate synthesis of Chocolate Thunder and Dr. J without anything being sacrificed due to the combination. Everyone else may be a refinement of their basic building block but lesser than their archetype, with the possible exception of Amare (pre-injury), who may be better than 'Nique. |

ok, let me throw in my 2 cents.... firstly, let me preface this by saying I absolutely despise Vince Carter... but he IS hands down, the best game dunker of all time.. he was rated there by Slam magazine who has the top 50 dunkers of alltime (Jordan, Nique, Dr. J and Michael Wislon who dunked on a 12 foot rim round out the top 5)... but take these as proof... 1) Vince over Freddy Weis 2) his Windmill alley in the rucker park summer league (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=07ED-...;search=rucker) 3) his baseline jacknife reverse vs the Pacers his rookie year 4) his dunk on Zo this year that was called the greatest in game NBA dunk off all time (keep in mind Zo is 3rd on the all time shot blocking list).... Vince is #1 followed by MJ
for those of u talking about James White, let me tell u, he will be up there... I used to play pickup w/ James White, and he routinely did things that normal humans do not even think of... he would dunk 2 handed from the elbow off of fast breaks like it was nothing, 360 between the legs, u name it, he did it... he said he wants 2 dunk from the top of the key b4 he retires... that may be a stretch, but don't count him out... but as far as the best dunker 2 ever play in the league... it's hands down Vince @ this point and an earlier poster mentioned J-Rich having the best dunk contest dunk ever... I assume he is alluding to the backwards b/w the legs, which was no doubt nice, but doesn't stand up to anything James White did, and as far as NBA contests go Iguodala off the back of the backboard, JR Smith behind the back, and MJ's kiss the rim are definitely better, not to mention the Darvin Ham's Jacknife reverse in the 97 dunk contest.... but if ur looking for the single greatest dunk in dunk contest history (non-NBA) look up Jameel Pugh....2 FEET from the free throw line..... he finished 2nd in the college contest 2 years ago b/c he missed a b/w the legs w/ 2 feet from like 12 feet... but if ur interested, look 4 it... that was #1 in my book |

There is a rucker park summer league season that's played indoors as well... that's where this one was... it literally shut down the game as the crowd rushed the court
