[/ QUOTE ] I am sorry for your loss and don't want to come off as cold-hearted but these situations are extremely rare compared to the typical call which is disruptive to the game. I seldom see individuals who can multitask at the table. Cell phone use slowing down games is far more common than generally disruptive players. At least at the places I play.

Even the cold-bitter floor people at Bellagio would have dealt with this had they been summoned and someone whined loud enough.

If the 'rule making administrator' is the gaming control board and your using your phone in a room with a line-of-site to the sports book, then it is a just rule regardless of how poker players feel about the 1 in 1000 call that could be an emergency. Even if it is merely the poker room and no sports book is involved, if it is their rule then you need to follow it or play somewhere else. 999 out of 1000 calls are not emergencies and for those 999 calls, 99.99% of the people answering them at the table are slowing the game down. I feel for anyone who gets an emergency call but using the potential for getting one as an excuse to take phone calls at the table is not justified.

If you take out your phone in a sports book I imagine the most likely outcome is they tell you to get rid of it; they don't mug you and take money from you.

[/ QUOTE ] How disruptive can a cell phone be? Once they recieve the call they have to finish the hand they are in and step away from the table. I think what is being missed here is there are places that kill your hand for answering your phone which is plain wrong and is not the same as dealing out someone on the phone or declaring their hand dead for being on the phone when the cards are dealt. If someone is talking when a hand is dealt in a tournament this is a completely differnt situation than when they receive a phone call on the turn. I would never play in a room that has a rule to take money form a new player and give it to an angle shooting local because he didn't know they steal money from you if you answer your phone (this is the same as the casino helping any player in any situation that says "I want you to rule the winning hand dead so I can get the pot instead")

[/ QUOTE ] ditto... normally even at places that ban being on cell phone in hands you can sit there and text between hands, i just lay my phone with screen down against the rail if i am in the middle of a text msg and need to play a hand - they just dont want you to see your screen and be able to read a txt message during a hand in case your buddy is railing the table from the other side and sending info

Why do you people (except Randy) not make a distinction between Answering a phone, and Talking on a phone.
Sitting there for a few minutes talking and expecting to be dealt cards is one thing. Another is hitting the 'take call' button on your phone saying "hold on" leaving the person on the line and stepping away from the table after the hand. The answer to this question is probably the most common answer to questions posted in this forum. IT DEPENDS.
